If Howie knew this guy had that ability he would have taken him in the first round and not risk the rest of the league having a shot at him. Plus as a first rounder you basically have a 5 yr contract so you can control them longer n cheaper

Why spend a first round pick if you can get him in the 5th? You’re losing a first round pick that way.
If he has the talent why take the risk of waiting? If you know what talent is, you don’t take the risk.
there’s probably a ton of GM saying why use a 7 th when you could get him as a F/A
I'll give Howie credit for drafting Mailata. I hope he becomes a career Eagle and develops his massive potential. I also hope that front office politics remains out of it.
Howie's record over the past six drafts has been downright awful. Like New York Jets awful. It's the biggest reason this franchise is stuck with an aging, low-talent roster just a few years after winning the Super Bowl.
Just look below. The names don't lie. There can be lots of excuses made, but I see systematic failure at drafting talent. Howie isn't responsible for 100% of those failures, but as General Manager, he's accountable.

agreed. Love everything about the guy, EXCEPT him holding on too long. However I can’t blame the guy. He wants to play the game he loves, and (for some reason) still thinks he can. Kind of sad but kind of rooting for him. Like watching your kid trying to walk the first time and falling over themself. Proud of them for trying and want them to make it work, but sad that they can’t just figure it out.
Good. The Eagles need to hit a few home runs in the mid rounds to get back to winning.
The other part is that teams are still willing to shell out good money for him. I don’t know his financial situation, but being paid $3-4M a year to play maybe 8-10 games isn’t bad from JP’s perspective.

Poor Howie just can’t catch a break with his high draft picks.
It’s nice to see someone state what’s been on all of our minds w/r/t Joe Flacco. He’s past it and no longer capable of winning games in a back up role. He was brutal (back up surrounding cast or not) and is nowhere near the type of player Hurts is, meaning your entire offensive system changes with the backup in.
Not that any of this matters but I listened to Philly sports radio on Tuesday, WIP I think, and they were reporting from the Eagles/Pats practice sessions. The guy at the sessions was saying how the Eagles were having their way with the Pats. In all phases! The guy even used the word dominating a few times. Watching the game last nite, Ross Tucker the broadcast analyst , said the same exact thing. He had watched all the workouts throughout the week and said the Eagles definitely were the better looking team. Then go out and lose by 5 td's...go figure...
Did you read any of the posted articles? In practice, it was the ones vs. the ones. In the game, Da Birds sat almost all of their projected O starters (just a few exceptions) and a good chunk of their projected D starters. Another team's ones should smoke a team's twos, threes, or pipe dreams.

Came back in and he still wasn’t feeling good. We evaluated him. We just decided it wasn’t in his best interests to play given what he was feeling. We evaluated him. He’s fine now. He’s doing OK now but that’s why we held him out.
“He actually went to the hospital to get evaluated for his stomach. He came back, everything is good and he’s going to be OK. He had pain in his abdomen… For a guy like that to tell us, he’s a tough guy, so it must have been hurting pretty good for him to let us know about that.”
The positive for Hurts and the Eagles is that the issue isn’t something significant like appendicitis that would require immediate intervention. The downside is that Hurts was unable to take part in the game against the Patriots as the team gears up for their regular season opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 12.
Hurts tested negative for COVID-19.
