My ranking of Philly sandwiches -- in general -- goes like this:

1. Roast pork, such as John's or Dinic's
2. Italian hoagie
3. Cheesesteak, almost anyone other than Pat's and Geno's
4. Schmitter

the reason, imo so many great Philly sandwiches is the roll, best around, and it is hard to reproduce elsewhere. I know here in WV, we dont come close.

George's in the Italian Market district has a nice variety. In addition to the usual cheese steak & roast pork, they have roast beef, veal, Italian sausage (sweet, hot, and burn my ass), and my favorite: tripe.

Hear ya. In Pittsburgh, we have the same issue with Primanti's. Gets old hearing about it on every national sports broadcast.

Only had the Dinic's on that list. Pittsburgh's Roethlisburger at Peppi's doesn't get enough love. Great sandwich. Heard about a chopped cheese from Harlem and made my own at home but never had one in NYC.

In Lancaster county we can’t even come close. A couple of stores have started to shelve Licios rolls and every dumshit picks the store brand over it. SMH.
