PIAA separating public vs. private postseasons?

“Absolutely the WPIAL would not be in favor of this. Even getting rid of the transfer rule would create chaos. Is the existing transfer rule totally effective? Absolutely not. People going to wherever they want to play is counterproductive to what interscholastic athletics is about.” - Tim O'Malley, head of the WPIAL, quoted in Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

It continues....the worst part of youth sports is the adults
PA Legislature probably has been issues to worry about than high school sports.
The only entity more power hungry than the piaa ...... the state legislature...smh

Wrestling is not included in the sports where private would have separate championships.

correct, but there is also language in the bill that could allow wrestling to be separated. The below (3), from the proposed bill, could be used to include wrestling.

Section 1606-A. Playoffs. -- (a) The following provisions shall apply to football, boys' basketball, boys' soccer, girls' soccer, girls' basketball, girls' volleyball, baseball and softball interscholastic athletics in this Commonwealth:
(1) For the purpose of the interdistrict playoffs, separate playoff systems shall be established by the association for athletics for public schools and nonpublic schools, except that the championship shall be between the public school champion and nonpublic school champion that won in the separate playoff systems. There shall be an equal number of public and nonpublic schools in each inter district playoff system. If there is an insufficient number of qualified nonpublic schools in a particular classification equal to those in the public school playoffs, the nonpublic school playoffs in that classification may still be held. Inter district playoff brackets for nonpublic schools shall be determined by the nonpublic school representative on the association's board of directors.
(2) -- I'll skip this -- it basically precludes any team that forfeits 2 or more games from being in the playoffs
(3) The association may determine whether the separate interdistrict playoff system is utilized in other sports if there are at least fifty (50) public schools and fifty (50) nonpublic schools participating in the sport.

The PIAA has come out against the bill. You can read their press release opposing the proposed bill at THIS LINK.
