I've been a lurker for a while on all of these boards, (and I don't pay for premium content) but damn, they hate Penn State. I miss quoted a poster and I got crucified like I had made beer illegal. I also have to laugh at their complete lack of diversity across the recruiting sites. They are lacking any real content on 24/7 and Scout (which I know are owned by the same people now). But damn, you'd think they'd rather go 1-11 and have that win be against PSU, than go 11-3 with a trip to the Rose Bowl. (There was a thread over there in which many posters favored the former over the latter)

I will take your post as good natured ribbing. My wife earned her Degree from Pitt and she's more intelligent than I am. The best, and wealthiest, lawyer I know has both his Degrees from Pitt. The most skilled surgeon I know has a Pitt Degree. I could go on, but the point is, Pitt is a quality University and I think most people here understand that. Yes, their fan base has aholes. So do we. That said, I am probably making too much of this so I will move on.
Yeah man I concur. UPMC is amazing, and many great people have come out of their university. You can't always say that those posters are all Pitt grads either (we have our own amount of crazy posters too). But yeah, Pitt law is very good as well (I say that as an attendee of another Commonwealth law school).
Yea man, i'm pretty sure most of us know the difference between Pitt University as an identity (you can get a great quality education from there) and their internet message board tough guys who most likely aren't even alums and stay in their parents basement.
I have a bunch of Pitt alums as friends and ALL of them are amazing. Yes we trash talk a bit once in a while but its just for entertainment purposes. They NEVER bring up Sandusky and actually know and follow the real story.
So don't worry about a couple of internet message board losers who have nothing better to do than troll and spew crap about PSU. But at the same time, don't ever miss the opportunity to put down the lil brother once in a while to show them who is still the flagship university in this state. Its all in good fun!

Excellent post. Most/all message board communities consist of a portion which is at once the very worst and a minuscule percentage of their overall various fanbases.
A lil sensitive there gambit? It was a joke to rile up the Pitt lurkers. Nothing more.

I make it a point to avoid other folks boards. Just not worth it (which is why I've avoided the Pens thread(s) about the current series for the most part). My exception is condolences when something really bad happens, like an unexpected death. Or, occasionally, if someone asks for help/info on visiting one of my teams as a visiting fan. Mind you, I did give Glov a little joshing in good fun after the Jackets 7-1 win earlier in the season. But he can take a good-natured ribbing.

) but I agree with you. I didn't go to PSU but Villanovans have a more playful than serious rivalry with St. Joe's that goes way back. You know, the guy went to St. Joe's cause he didn't get into Villanova sort of thing. But I don't hate St. Joe's. I just want us to beat them in basketball every year. And St. Joe's is a Jesuit college so it has to be pretty good.I did read the Pitt thread that lurker posted and those particular posters are vile and certainly deluded, so much so that you can't really take them seriously.
I think most sane Penn State fans recognize that there's a difference between a Pitt-educated doctor, dentist, lawyer, or engineer, and Johnnie Yinzer from Blawnox who's only a Pitt fan because it's the local team. Sports-related teasing aside, Pitt's a really good school that's on par or better than Penn State in some disciplines, just as Penn State is on par or better than Pitt in others.
Excellent thread. BtW, most of us over at Pitt feel the same way about most PSU fans.
The few blowhards on here do not represent the vast majority, and the same goes for the Pitt board. I happen to be around tonight and actually posted on another thread.
I like to keep it to football, but when it deviates I do my best to stay away from the
