How about this .... Pitt should approach the Big 10 for admission. That would insure an annual rivalry. Exactly where is the Atlantic Coast in Pittsburgh, for that matter Pennsylvania ???????? You know, the "Atlantic COAST Conference" really ?????

That would be very interesting. I am sure we would vote for their admission and I would bet Rutgers would vote against it.

We're in the Big TEN. Making fun of other conference names comes off somewhat hypocritical.

Penn State delivered the Pittsburgh TV market. Pitt isn't needed. In the eyes of all the conference honchos, it's all about TV money.

I don’t think PSU would in anyway support pitt getting into the big 10. A couple of years back there was a little bit of a brouhaha with Gordon Gee, the OSU president at the time, who made a comment about dealing with the priests at ND during a Q&A with OSU fans. The tape of the full Q&A was ultimately released and it was quite illuminating. Gee touched upon all sorts of issues from research at the university level to mega conferences. He also touched upon big 10 expansion and brought up Pitt and PSU. He spoke openly about PSU’s contempt for Pitt and clearly indicated there would be no way PSU would ever favor pitt getting into the big 10.

Pitt reportedly tried to back channel their way into this conference several times. It didn't work. They do not bring anything to the table financially, and that is the only thing the conference cares about. They didn't bring in Nebraska for academics.

I don't think anybody's making fun of other conference names, but rather proposing that Pitt and Pa. is not on the Atlantic Coast.

It was not to make fun of the conference name, just point out, how does a school on the border of Ohio become an Atlantic Coast School? It was about location. For that matter, how can the Big 10 have how many schools? OK - equal billing.
The post was designed to be "sarcastic" nothing deep :)

That would solve the home and home dilemma. Bring them and Notre Dame in and send the Michigan's to the west. It would also balance the conference out geographicly.

Takes 2 to tango, what exactly would they offer the B1G in terms of expanding the footprint and revenue??

What is the fascination with PITT?

Psu delivered New York, jersey, Delaware and probably lots of NE.....THE ones who watch college football at least!
Pittsburgh market for college sports is not relevant really.

Are you kidding? Pittsburgh is a significant sports market, and encompasses a large area. Would you suggest that Louisville is more prized for what it brings to the table?

The ACC is suffering from an identity crisis. Syracuse is much closer to Lake Ontario that it is to the Atlantic coast. Louisville? I won't get started on that. The ACC doesn't have a very formidable presence on the coast from Connecticut to Maryland.

Louisville would at least bring in a new market. All of the things you say about Pittsburgh are true, but it's not a new market. Bringing Pitt into the B1G is literally the equivalent of bringing Cincy into the B1G. A market already owned by a much more successful state rival. I am, however, in no way suggesting that the B1G invite Louisville.

Indeed it is...ranked 23rd, ahead of cities like Indianapolis, Baltimore, San Diego, Kansas City, Cincinnait, and Louisville, which is 48th.

Which begs the question, why did they bring Nebraska in?

There is a massive market in Nebraska, I think it's corn:)
And, who doesn't like corn on the cob?
All joking aside Nebraska historically is one of the Big Boys.

Name recognition is what Nebraska brings to the table. In preparation for the next round of television negotiations.

I'll tell you how old I am, Fairgambit. I remember when the Pittsburgh market was #8. That was back when 14 people lived in Phoenix and 21 people under 80 lived in Florida.
