This tweet is so representative of the head-in-sand state of pitt media fanboys. How can you completely ignore the recruiting classes that James Franklin has been putting together since he got here, and then act shocked when you see the talent divide between PSU and Pitt on full display? What do these fanboy media guys do in their spare time? Obviously they pay zero attention to what is happening around them. This is pathetic

When the flat world you live in ends at the perimeter of Allegheny County! the dumb ass journalists for the PPG and KDKA and other incestuous local outlets miss the vast majority of their audience which are PSU fans. Hell, there are more conflicted alter boy ND fans in Allegheny County that Pitt fans but PSU is king. These Blue and yellow dog turds need to wake the Phuck up and know the demographics of their audience.

Signed,,,,,Former Pittsburgher! Forever PSU fan.

What am I missing? I have no problem with the tweet. He said Narduzzi fielded a team that was totally outclassed talent wise. That tells me he believes Penn State is out recruiting Pitt. They are. What's the issue?

They know their demographics. There are far more Pitt fans in Allegheny County than Penn State fans. Despite the student body disparity, Pitt alums in the county outnumber those of PSU by more than 3 to 1.

Not according to a PPG survey ... 65% according to PPG support PSU. The percent grows even higher when you add the counties that border Allegheny County... again according to the PPG. Of course, the PPG could be wrong. That has been a PPG approach for decades.

I don't doubt what you are saying but I do doubt the validity of the PG Survey. That may be one of those polls they run on line at their web site where you just click a box for one or the other. This issue has been debated for years and the actual numbers always favor Pitt. My own observations, based upon over 4 decades of law practice here, also greatly favor Pitt. I will say, after last night, that if you took a "street survey" today Penn State would dominate the numbers. ;)

Ditto. I actually read the tweet a few times to make sure I wasn’t mis-reading it somehow.

I don't think the op was annoyed by just the tweet itself; rather, that Mueller seemed to be surprised to see this was the case.....i.e., he hasn't been paying attention for several years. Not a good look for a sportswriter, though I didn't have as much of a visceral reaction to it.

Yes, I interpreted it as he just now noticed this as he referred to it as av”troubling sign”. As if he didn’t expect such a gap in talent

What part of “utterly outclassed, talent wise” indicates that the guy tweeting isn’t aware of the talent CJF has been bringing to Happy Valley?

That brings up an interesting question. After watching that game, who on Pitt could actually start for Penn State? I’m thinking their senior middle linebacker and that’s it.

It depends on Mueller’s stance before the game. If he thought they had a world class QB and favored the panthers in the game, then tweeted what he did, then that’s exactly what the OP is pointing out. If Mueller has been trying to point out the recruiting disparity the last few years and then tweeted this, non-issue.

Chris Mueller, though a PSU graduate, literally brags about his disdain for Penn state. I listened for just a few minutes to the The Fan's pregame show and he was going on about how much he hates Penn State (very professional). That's pretty much all he talks about, except for maybe constantly reminding the audience that he is a father to be. Truth be told, the guy is a walking justification for state mandated sterilization.

Wirginis (the linebacker), potentially another linebacker, and maybe, just maybe an O-lineman like Bookser. Some D-linemen would get rotated in too, though I don’t see any of them starting. Honestly, I think Kenny Pickett would be PSU’s 4th best QB.

I dont know about the players, but if Nardog was given a chance at PSU, he would gladly hold CJF's headset and water for him...

When I hear of stuff like this I have to believe it has origins in that person's campus experience -- most likely a negative experience rooted within the person himself. I can think of no logical reason why a young adult would not like State College and University Park for their college experience. "Hatred" because the school was too big? Too many choices for friendships? He would have preferred Oakland?

Not sure if you saw Chris Peak's post, but he actually said that he believed their FULLBACK could play for us. Granted, he did not use the word "start", but... I had to think, who was our last scholarship fullback?

Considering he works for their flag ship station and mc’s their pre game show, he actually may be taking a risk making this tweet. However, he is still obnoxious and very hard to listen to.

Mueller predicted prior to Week 1 that Penn State would finish 5-7 this year, and definitely pick Pitt to win this game.

Agree. While there are some professors/deans that were absolute assholes regarding things during my time there, overall I never met another student who spent time at PSU who did not cherish it. Even a guy I work with who transferred out after 1 year to a school closer to home (sick family member) still misses it. Mueller must have been a DB while there and hasnt changed

Correct. I will say however, in support of the OP, that the tweet is written in a manner that suggests it was a saturday-night revelation for Mueller. "That's the real troubling SIGN".
Sign? Where have you been Mueller? PSU's average star rating over the last four years is north of 3.5 and improving. Pitt's average is a hair under 3. This is not news. If you just saw the sign Saturday night, you haven't been looking.

"More troubling than any individual gaffe tonight is the fact that Pat Narduzzi fielded a team that was utterly outclassed, talent-wise. That’s the real troubling sign"

Yep. The use of "sign" indicates that it was somehow a surprise or unexpected. If the statement was something more like "That's the real troubling reality",.then I don't think the OP's point would be valid.

Probably the most spot-on post I've ever read on this board.
