So...here's how the Coaches Ranking is created...for those that don't know...
Each of the 8 qualifying conferences (EIWA, B1G, MAC, ACC, SoCon, B12, P12, EWL) assigns ONE coach at EACH weight class for a ranking. The B1G, for example, is;
125 - Roger Chandler (MSU)
133 - Matt Storniolo (NU)
141 - Cael Sanderson (PSU)
149 - Tony Ersland (PUR)
157 - Scott Goodale (RUT)
165 - Barry Davis (WIS)
174 - Jim Heffernan (ILL)
184 - Duane Goldman (IND)
197 - Tom Brands (IA)
285 - Kerry McCoy (MD)
With 14 B1G Teams, some coaches roll off each year, and new ones placed on. If a conference has fewer than 10 teams, some coaches get 2 weight classes (Matt Dernlan (BING), for example, has 184 and 197).
So, each conference gets 1/8th say in the ranking. That sounds fair to me...and besides, if it goes to a third party ranking entity, who's to say the coaches that want to "play politics" won't reach out to the 3rd party. Guess I've never noticed anything horribly wrong with the Coaches Ranking, such as a guy way out of place. Maybe one of Doug's guys is "on the bubble", and he's doing a little politicking himself with the tweet? Not a major story to me.
