Sam McCloud (Dennis Weaver) was terrific.Wow, on that list it's Magnum.
Off the top of my head, it would have been more difficult if it included Columbo, Jim Rockford, Kojak, Lenny Briscoe, Frank Pembelton, Adrian Monk, Barney Miller, Steve McGarrett (TOS), and Sam McCloud.
I liked Barnaby Jones a lot. That's 40 years ago already! Where does the time go?Missing in action:
Mannix (Mike Connors)
Hawaii Five-O - Steve McGarrett (Jack Lord)
Cannon (William Conrad)
It Takes A Thief - Al Mundy (Robert Wagner)
Barnaby Jones (Buddy Ebsen)
Sam McCloud (Dennis Weaver) was terrific.
Who was McCloud's boss? McCloud used to drive the poor guy crazy.
As for Dennis Weaver - he starred in my all time best sleeper hit - "Duel". Some nobody named Spielberg, he never amounted to anything.
There is a Mission Impossible movie series with Tom Cruise and Ving Rhames. 5 so far, decent enough movies. New one supposed to come out next year.TV only:
Rockford
Columbo
Blue Bloods - entire Reagan family
Mission Impossible
Movies:
Inspector Clouseau (ala Peter Sellers)
And since someone went international in a previous post:
The Avengers, with Diana Rigg as Emma Peel. I have that great theme song on my iPod. I also have the Rockford theme song and The Pink Panther as well.
This photo of Diana Rigg as Emma Peel could have been taken out of the Austin Powers series, but it was the 60s, baby!
Mrs. Peel, along with Laura Petrie, were the affirmations of my sexual orientation at a very young age. (is it warm in here all of a sudden?)
With all the success of the CSI and other series, I've wondered why there's been no remake of Mission Impossible. I guess maybe because they all handle impossible missions nearly every hour of every night on TV?

Diana Rigg is a keeper.
She's a tasty bit o'crumpet (in my best Benny Hill voice)There is a Mission Impossible movie series with Tom Cruise and Ving Rhames. 5 so far, decent enough movies. New one supposed to come out next year.
Diana Rigg is a keeper.
Dan Tanna also had the best secretary of the bunch in Phyllis Davis. Then I enjoyed that show "Vegas" with Ullrich.
Female: Heather Locklear as Stacey Sheridan on T.J. Hooker.
Male: Edward Woodward as The Equalizer.
Andy Sipowicz, NYPD Blue.
Nailed itFrank Drebin - Police Squad

Gee! No Rust Cohle or Marty Hart?
Hell even no Ray Velcoro too!
Write in........before your time: Columbo. Perfect blend of curiosity, loyalty to duty, intelligence and that scary 6th sense all the great one's have (you better confess because he already knows).
Oh, and you didn't see him coming........nobody takes anybody seriously who can't look you straight in the eye. LOL.
I know he wasn't real, but he should have been!

I haven't yet voted, but wanted to give you kudos for a great "off-season" post. Well done.Digging into the new Twin Peaks show (which I love) and revisiting the original gave me a new appreciation for how badass Agent Cooper is. And since I know a lot of folks here love good TV, and especially good law enforcement/detective TV, I thought maybe we should have a poll of our favorites. Of course, there have been a TON of great TV cops/detectives - I listed ones I sort of have a bias towards. Of course, feel free to write in a favorite. I also didn't include cops or detectives from shows that were specials or mini-series (Cole from True Detective, etc.), or ones that would be funny but would take away from someone maybe more deserving (Barney Fife), or ones from more than one show (so, no Dana Scully, Phillip Jeffries, Tubbs, etc.).
You get three votes - get to it!!
1. Kate Beckett, Castle
2. James Crockett, Miami Vice
3. Special Agent Dale Cooper, Twin Peaks
4. U.S. Marshall Raylan Givens, Justified
5. Texas Ranger Cordell Walker, Walker Texas Ranger
6. Jack Bauer, 24
7. Special Agent Fox Mulder, X-Files
8. Detective Jimmy McNulty, The Wire
9. Agent Carrie Mathison, Homeland
10. Magnum, Magnum PI
Dan Tanna also had the best car (that's 2 of the criteria that he's tops in, btw):
I thought it was behind the Riviera.Dan Tanna's office was actually a towing garage located behind Circus Circus. It's gone now.
