How about Wild is the Wind for most under-rated? So many great songs. I really enjoyed Absolute Beginners and his dancing with the fabulous diva on a stick, Gail Anne Dorsey when he played this song. Another under-rated favorite is Sorrow and yet another is Sister Midnight.

Great story about Springsteen's meeting with Bowie at MMR. If you look at one of the pics, Bruce does not seem too interested. But Ed told Bruce to drive down and meet Bowie.

Here is a trivia question for you. Bowie had 2 songs to possibly give to Ian Hunter for Mott the Hoople to record. Obviously the song that he gave to Ian Hunter was All the Young Dudes. What was the other song that Bowie decided to keep for himself and not give to Ian Hunter?

My guess is Suffragette City. Love everyone's choices and looks to me like Ziggy and Alladin Sane have the most songs selected. Here's some more obscure stuff for personal research:
The Ziggy Stardust Santa Monica live 1972 tour recording (includes a great velvet's cover of Waiting for the Man
-5 Line Poem, Andy Warhol and Queen Bitch from Hunky Dory
- TVC15 and title track from Station to Station
-Alladin Sane
-Rebel Rebel
- trilogy of late 70's recordings with Eno including Low
-I'm Afraid of Americans
- All the Young Dudes demo with Bowie vocals on Mott's "All the Young Dudes" Legacy edition with Ian and Mick and the boys wailing in the background. awesome stuff.
R.I.P. David Bowie ! Thanks for making a better world for millions

Yes, you are correct. Suffragette was almost given away. I should have said Station to Station. Saw every tour from Diamond Dogs on, The Station to Station tout was my favorite. Best show I saw was the Tower show during his mini 3 city tour after Heathen release. He was spectacular that night. Forgot the words to Ziggy. Stopped and said that Philly was too important and the Tower was too important to not have it be perfect. So, he started again from the beginning.

Was Ronson on the Diamond Dogs tour?
Most underrated recording mrtailgate?

Suffragette City.

I sing to my two year old at bedtime, with several Elvis Costello songs being the main ones. He now knows most of Alison, so he now completes the lines with me, and laughs because he knows it pleases me. Anyway I started doing Suffragette City (SC) with him a couple months back, the first time at a causal fish restaurant. Last Thursday we were at the restaurant, about to leave, and I started him on SC. We go out to the car and he requests "Rock-n-Roll" which is my cue to turn on the local station, WXRT. And as luck would have it SC was playing.

Last evening after dinner I get him to complete Alison to convince my "wife figure" that he indeed does this. After I'm done, he decides he's going to lead me instead, and starts with a perfect "Hey, man!" When I awoke to WXRT saying Bowie had passed away I first thought the news was sad, but also, how weird. That song defined Rock-n-roll to my son, and I just think he might have the musical gene I missed out on.

No, Mick Ronson and all of the Spiders were not part of Diamond Dogs. This album introduced some of the line up that played the majority of Bowie's career. Slick and Garson and I thought Carlos Alomar might have played on the tour as well but I could be wrong on Alomar.

There are so many great songs throughout. I would not say that Quicksand was underrated but that was one of my favs. For great underrated recordings, I would have to say Sorrow and Sister Midnight. Not underrated but underplayed was When you Rock and Roll with Me. The soundtrack of my life for sure.

A good song, but Bowie didn't write it. It was the title song for a 50s movie, originally recorded by Johnny Mathis. Nina Simone made it one of her standards.

Sad news for music/art fans around the world today with the passing of a true icon - David Bowie. Obliviax suggested a poll and this will no doubt be a tough one with all the great stuff he's put out throughout the years. Write-in's welcome, but only one vote!

Thought the question was more along lines of recorded v. written. Memory us hazy as well on Sister Midnight and whether Bowie wrote that or wrote in collaboration with Stooges. Will have to look back on that one. Same with Sorrow since it appeared on Pin Ups, Bowie did not author. A great recording though.

Wasn't trying to denigrate Bowie's version of the song. It's a great song. I was was just assuming that some folks would not know about it since he is renown for his songwriting.

It is not possible to find two men, or two performers, less alike than Crosby and Bowie. But this was fantastic. I wonder who the producer was who had the idea to bring them together?
I totally agree. I told my friends about it yesterday and he googled it . I remember watching the actual show and was amazed
how well two opposites could do such a wonderful performance.

Nice tribute from Rick Wakeman on the BBC this morning. Rick and David were close friends.
