Poor, poor pitiful me…….er……Alabama

Kleenex warning! This will bring tears to your eyes!

Well tears didn't flow but my eyes did get kind of watery. Then again, it could have been the cold I'm dealing with.

But seriously, Spin, have you no appreciation for the Sacred Tradition of college football? Alabama can not be abandoned to its fate. Anyone who loves the sport should pony up a few bucks to save the struggling Tide.

And this on top of the injustice done to them by the CFP committee??!! It's outrageous!!

Hahaha! Yup, Saban and Harbaugh, two guys who got out while the getting was good. There's a lot to be said for people who can read the handwriting on the wall.

I just saw this on a post elsewhere on this board:
This is a listing of all sports programs total value, and annual revenues. And you've got to know that the vast majority of all the revenue comes from Football. Poor Bama, they only rank 5th among all P4 schools.

One has to wonder why Belichick got in?

Alabama for many years was always at the top. Why? As we all know they were doing NIL when it was not allowed. This is what allowed them to be so dominant and the NCAA did nothing to stop this. NOTHING!!! Now we have the NCAA doing nothing again. NIL is out of control. Success for teams going forward will be directly tied to the money. College football is ruined.

I don’t think it is ruined quite yet. This past November was great for CFB, due in large part to the playoff.

But the NCAA needs to figure out NIL, the transfer portal, and its calendar quickly (this offseason), or CFB will be ruined. The thing is, I don’t see anyone taking a leadership position in order to make those changes happen.

The NCAA has much bigger fish to fry than to waste their time on football, Like banning Indian names and letting dudes bring their balls into women’s locker rooms.

Nick Saban. He has a ton of Alabama and SEC bias but he would absolutely get things done and it sounds like he would take the job. People like a Sankey or Petitti would take the job but they would just create bigger separations between the haves and have not conferences and schools. I saw Mack Brown's name floated, he has the perspective and may not have a ton of bias but he seems weak. Barry Alvarez would be in the same boat. I just think Saban would have that gravitas and little bit of anger necessary to fix things and not be influenced by other powerful people.

Gotta love the hypocrisy in Dixie. It was OK for Saban but now field is level and the bleating starts.

I'm waiting for Harvard drop out Bill Gates to say "screw it, I'm giving $1B to Harvard so they can win a national championship." They have an all-star team portal in, Urban Meyer coaches and the rest is history. Crazy you say? I say I see no reason it couldn't happen. Really depends on a crazy rich alum wanting to do it. Or maybe Elon Musk does the same for Penn.

I may have mentioned this before but Nick Saban is an awful human being. One of the most arrogant people on earth. I have heard an incredible number of stories from HS coaches who attended clinics and "were not allowed to talk to Coach Saban" or even approach him. One guy got yelled at for looking at him. Some of the things he has said and done over the years are ridiculous. He was a great football coach, but never forget he cheated everywhere he went. He had the benefit of $EC bag men and a nearly unlimited budget when it was illegal to pay players. He was 34-24-1 at Michigan State without that decided advantage. Why anyone would use the word "gravitas" to describe an oily guy like Saban is beyond me.

Do you didn’t invite him over for Christmas or New Year’s?

Between Gates and Zuckerburg and others, Harvard could be unstoppable...but truthfully, Harvard has an endowment worth $53B so they could already do this and buy a championship without even noticing the impact to their endowment.

Stanford would be perhaps the better example as an FBS program. They have a long list of Big Tech alums that could write checks and they have a $36.5B endowment. They could spend $1B from their endowment, buy a championship and still have $35.5B left

I have no idea if Saban is an awful human being and frankly don't care. I wouldn't be hiring someone to date my daughter. Sometimes you need an asshole to get things done. Lots of palm pressing CEO types would love that position and would just end up making their rich and powerful friends richer and more powerful. Saban would be motivated and get things fixed. He has gravitas because people look to him as being a serious, important guy. He is confident and commands respect and wouldn't put up with any sh*t.

None of them care much about football and smartly give their money elsewhere.

The Ivy League has strict rules on sports. IIRC, they haven allowed spring practice since 1952. They don’t offer full football scholarships. They don’t allow contact practice during the season. They don’t allow going to bowl games.

They just changed rules to allow participation in the FCS subdivision playoffs starting next year.

The Ivy League decided to de-emphasize football in the early 1950s as they felt it got too powerful and overshadowed academics. Game weekends had become Animal House events and embarrassed the Old Guard.

I don’t know if they even allow NIL. And top athletes don’t go there.

I'm glad it is that way. Still true student athletes.

The Texas schools and Oklahoma oil money will show the SEC what lots of money is. Much like we're going to learn that Oregon and Michigan and UCLA (if they want to play) can show the other B1G schools that they also have real $.
