I rarely post, but I'm reaching out to all of you. I have been bedside with my 56 y/o father since Monday. He has a very bad case of pneumonia that the doctors are having trouble fixing. It was so bad that his O2 levels dropped far enough for his heart to stop. They brought him back with 8 minutes of CPR and some electric shocks earlier this week.Things were looking up yesterday, but today has not been good. They are going to do a couple of things today that they have previously described as "last resort". For those who are so inclined, please pray for my father, Larry. I greatly appreciate it.

Good luck, Bro. You are a good and wonderful son. Take comfort in that either way. Prayers and best wishes.

You got it paradox. This board will storm the heavens for your dad. All my best to you and your family. Remember, if you just need to vent- this is the place. We are all here for you.

wow! 56 is too young to be put through this.

I'm no humanist and thusly have extended to my savior a prayer on your father's behalf. Please keep us informed as to his condition.

God Bless your father and your entire family.

Thank you everyone. This one response made me laugh though. Thank you....it was much needed.

I don't have much of an update other than they did the "last resort" things and we are hopeful for some positive news in the morning. They have not re-checked his blood levels yet, but we could tell from the monitors that some of the figures that we have been watching were slightly better when we had to leave tonight. My family appreciates all of your prayers.

I recently lost my father and know how tough that is. Your family is in my prayers

God of all creation, you who spoke a simple command and brought forth light from the darkness, I call upon you now to send forth your miracle-working power into every aspect of Larry’s being. In the same way that you spoke unto the dust of the ground when you created humankind in your own image, I ask you to send forth your healing power into his body. Send forth your word and command every cell, electrical and chemical impulse, tissue, joint, ligament, organ, gland, muscle, bone and every molecule in his body to come under complete and perfect health, strength, alignment, balance and harmony.

It is through you that Larry lives and moves and has his being. With every breath he takes, he lives under your life-giving grace. We ask you to touch him now with the same miracle-working power that you used when you fashioned him inside his mother’s womb. As surely as you have created him in your image and likeness, you can also recreate him now and restore his health.

Please fill Larry with your healing power. Cast out all that should not be inside of him. We ask you to mend all that is broken, root out every sickness and disease, open all blocked arteries and veins, restore his internal organs, rebuild his damaged tissues, remove all inflammation and cleanse him of all infections, viruses and destructive forms of bacteria.

Let the warmth of your healing love flood Larry’s entire being, so that his body will function the way it was created to be, whole and complete, renewed in your perfect health. We ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayers my friend. I lost my 55 year old mother back in November. Spent weeks by her bedside. Not an easy situation for any family. Stay strong.

May our gracious God be with your father in his recovery and with your family in their worry and hour of need.

Best wishes to you and your family. We have been through similar situations with both my wife's parents and my parents, although they were in their 70's and 80's. It is never easy.

Thanks again everyone. One of the things they did last night was to flip him onto his stomach. This was to allow the ventilator a chance to inflate areas of his lungs along his back that were not being properly filled with air. He responded very well to this and the dropped his O2 levels back to 60% from 90% on his ventilator. This morning they flipped him onto his back again in order to avoid possible nerve damage from being on his stomach. They had to push the O2 back up to 70% while laying on his back, but that is still 20% better than yesterday. We are hopeful that we can keep progressing like this daily until he can be pulled out of his coma and off the vent. We do know that this is going to be a long road and that he is still very much critically ill and progress can be lost very quickly. We are told that ICU patients with his type of illness often go through a series of peaks and valleys on their way to recovery.

Tonight they will flip him for another 16 hours onto his stomach. I am praying that it will be just as successful tonight as it was last night. I will update tomorrow when I know more. Thank you all on behalf of my family and I.

That's encouraging, paradox.

As you wrote, this is likely to be a long road, with peaks and valleys. Here's hoping for your father and your family that in the end it's mostly peaks.

That's good to hear. I know I am not alone is saying my prayers will continue. By the way, I'm glad you mentioned your Dad's name, Larry, in your original post. It makes it easier to offer a personal prayer on his behalf.

paradox,

Thinking and praying for you, your Father Larry, and your family. 56 is way too young. I hope that a speedy recovery for you Father is around the corner, and you are both back to being able to cheer on PSU shortly.

Take care and Best Regards

Keep the faith paradox. There's 'more' lung posterior than anterior so the vent O2 values will vary with positioning. . Still praying for your dad and family.
