Predict the Nine

we have 14 and assume 25
Predict the nine?????
My guess: Dioubate, Ferns, Hudson, Niang, Brown, Pryts, Hamlin, Wheeler and a big surprise !

Either your math is lousy or I don't understand your post.

As long as the 9 include Ferns, Betiku, Hamlin, and Hudson, I'll be happy.

We really need Ferns in this class.

25 would mean about 12 kids leaving the program before their eligibility is up. It's fun to speculate with a lot of kids on the board but that's a tremendous amount of attrition in one year.

Here are the candidates:
QB: Hack
RB: Lynch
OL: Dowrey, Gaia, Laurnet, Palmer
TE: Wilkerson
WR: Kiley, Lewis
DL: Johnson
LB: Walker, Wartman, Wooten
DB: J. Smith, Golden, A. Smith

You would need 12 of those 16 to leave early and I can't imagine any of the OL leaving early. That means all 12 remaining kids would leave. Hack & A. Johnson seem the be the best bests for the NFL. Kids that will have graduated are possibilities. I'd hate to see kids get pushed out that have not graduated.

well ok predict 11 or nine ....I would edit it but then WTF I just plain screwed up. Have another beer on me, I'll have another too.
You're a good sport and I had a Old Mecklenburg Copper Ale that I got from my daughter for Father's Day (saved one for you)

I'm not sure if Von Walker would even still be on scholarship. He may have been one of those kids who as a walk-on was given a scholarship for the one or two years where we had extras to give. I'm not sure if there was ever an assumption there that he would keep it - it may have just been a one-year thing.

I thought Magoo had us at 16 openings a while back and that there had been another opening since then. M

I thought Magoo had us at 16 openings a while back with maybe another opening since. maybe Magoo has his analysis handy.

I see Hack and Johnson leaving for draft. Due to a lack of being in the playing rotation, Wilkerson, Laurent, Kiley, Wooten, Smith and Smith are candidates. Who knows....

Golden has reportedly gotten into the 2 deep at Safety and I look for him to make a run at a starting spot in 2016.

I'll say 6. Then, wait and see.

Betiku - de
Dioubate - dt
Ferns - lb
Cam Brown - lb
D. Hamlin or another DB
T. Nixon or another WR

I also think we get Toney at LB

And the wait and see could develop as the high school season helps identify a couple late bloomers. Another QB and another interior OL. And maybe a Kicker.

We have 71 players with 2016 eligibility. I'm not counting Kiley and Warner. I am counting Hack and AJ who could turn pro. I'm also
counting Walker now. We lost D. Davis, but Von is on scholie now.

3 QB - Hack, McSorley and Stevens
6 RB - Lynch, Thomas, Scott, Allen, Robinson and Barkley
5 TE - Breneman, Gesicki, Wilkerson, Bowers and Holland
8 WR - Lewis, Hamilton, Blacknell, Godwin, Thompkins
Polk, Johnson and Charles
13 OL - Gaia, Dowrey, Laurent, Palmer, Nelson, Mahon, Beh
Sorrell, Brosnan, Wright, Bates, Jenkins and Gonzales

4 DT - Cothren, A.Johnson, A. White, R. Windsor
8 DE - Sickels, Schwan, Cothran, T. Brown, S. Miller
K. Carter, R. Buchholz and K. Givens
10 LB - Wartman, Bell, Cabinda, Farmer, Reeder, Wooten
Walker, Bowen, Kelly and Cooper
6 CB - Haley, Campbell, D. Worley, J. Smith, Reid and G. Taylor
8 S - Allen, Oruwariye, Apke, Golden, A. Smith, Petrishen
A. Monroe and J. Miller

Looks like the writing is on the wall for some 5th year guys such as; Schwan, Wooten, Golden and one of the OL. I can see Hack and AJ going pro. You're at 16. The 4 fifth year guys leaving brings you to 20. Others may leave. Hard to project.

Thanks.
Positive reports on Golden this spring as well as for Schwab. But we have big numbers in secondary so its a position that looks ripe for attrition after this coming season.

with Hack likely to leave I hope CJF brings in another QB

They will have to be on the two-deep to return. Maybe, a kid like Wilkerson doesn't come back. He's been snake-bit with injuries and
is having trouble getting on the field. Could be Dowrey or Laurent if
they get beat out by a younger player.

Even if Hack leaves we have 3 scholarship QB's for 2016. McSorley, Stevens, and Zembiec. That's fine, save the ship and get Hunter for 2017.

Don't u think another QB is a priority??

I believe CJF wants 5 scholarship QB's on his roster. Going thru another yr with 3 does not make much sense to me, unless he has a couple pretty good walk on's.

The class of 2016 shouldn't be a problem.

The class of 2017 could get ugly. There may only be six players losing their eligibility after the 2016 season.
All the more reason to be very selective. A recruit this year means one less next year.

Pretty good analysis. I'm not sure if the writing is on the wall for kids that haven't graduated. I hope not. I'm OK with nudging a 5th year player out after they graduate.

I disagree. They have four years and 3 summers to graduate. The only reason to bring them back for a 5th is if they can play.

Football takes a lot of time, especially during the season. That makes it difficult for some kids to carry a full load. I'd rather keep a kid on scholarship so he can graduate than pay him a cost of attendance subsidy. I know I'm old fashioned but I think college athletes should be students and that the university should support that.

Zembiec is going to enroll early. Hack won't announce until January. Hard to find a good one at that point. That's 3 young ones. Maybe, a graduating kid transfers in.

CJF found Stevens late. If he wants another QB he will find one. A late bloomer or a flip.

But by December he may have 1 or 2 2017 QB's committed and as you said go with 3 scholarship QB's in 2016. He' a relentless recruiter which makes following it interesting......
