Now that the Tree & the Golden Bear (& the Ponies) will be @ the ACC, what do you assume will happen to O-State & W-state?
Are you hoping they can (somehow) find a new P5 home?

I don’t think many people care what happens to them...not just here but in general.
Neither add much. AAC is my guess unless the MWC feels generous.

The AAC turned them down already (well, at least said they aren’t expanding with them). Looks like it’s the MWC that’s left.

It’s really a shame. I’ve followed Oregon State some over the years. They just completed a stadium renovation and have been a decent team at times. Now this hits. Corvallis is a fun place to watch a game. I can’t believe anyone would take Cal or SMU over them.

I don’t believe you understand all the criteria. With CAL it was the quality of political protests and street crime that got them the invite. In the case of SMU, the ACC promised to allow them to have their boosters from the 1980’s run the program without interference from league headquarters.

SMU gives them a team in Texas. There's no comparison between SMU and Oregon State. I don't understand Cal though. I don't think anyone should have gone after Cal, Oregon State or Washington St.

Yeah, the Beavs can’t compete with that Pony Express money. They aren’t too far from Portland for that lunacy factor but Corvallis can’t match Cali in that regard. ;).

I really feel bad for the Beavs and Wazzu. They just been strung along and abandoned repeatedly through this process.

The Beavs had a pretty good program under Dennis Erickson and Mike Riley through the 2000s. They started to tail off some toward the end but then just fell apart under Gary Anderson and John Smith starting around 2015. They did bounce back to 10-3 last year.

I know financially they don’t fit but it’s too bad the Big Ten wouldn’t take them to keep the Oregon- Oregon State (and Washington- Washington St) rivalries going. I hate what expansion is doing to long standing traditions.

The Beavers were never gonna be allowed in the SEC where they would play the ‘cocks. No way would that game ever be permitted!

I agree that it is a strange mix. Somewhere down the line there could be a schism of smaller, traditionally more academically focused Dl teams becoming their own Patriot League.

If so, Wake, Duke, BC, SMU, Stanford are part of that mix. Throw in Vandy, NW, Tulane, Ga Tech, maybe FBS teams like Villanova+ Elon and you have a conference that is more similar than different. Miami, ND, USC fit this model too, but they will run w the big dogs.

Rice and possibly the Academies fit there too.

Love Corvallis. Great base for fly fishing adventures in a perfect-sized town.

I don't see any team leaving the BIG or SEC. Especially for a league nobody cares about. It would be financial suicide. Vandy and NW have mostly gotten run over for years, so it's not like much will change with expansion.

I think some believe those schools will eventually be forced out but I feel like that's unlikely. The big schools need teams they'll beat regularly

I can't imagine the conferences would have any reason to boot them out. Seems like a giant lawsuit waiting to happen.

I like to think of it as the curse of Ed Ray’s lying, nativity, and complicity when leading the NCAA.

Exactly. With the same talent we could go 10-2 in a good respectable conference like the B1G or 6-6 in a conference made up of the very best teams from the B1G and SEC. It’s better to have a winning record.
