a friend of mine is an assistant to one of the President's on the NCAA commission. She said that they will be reviewing the transfer system at the spring meeting. I am not familiar with how their governance works or exactly what authority they have. She did say this is being added to the agenda, so it is new business for whatever reason. Her president is not happy with the current system and how it is being run.

After the Fields decision, it's not hard to imagine a 'false flag' scenario --- a player is unhappy at school X and wants to play at school Y the following season. Fans associated with school Y pretend to be school X supporters and troll the player on social media. Player is allowed immediate eligibility and transfers to school Y.

Translation:

1. Sit down for the meeting.

2. Ask “ What do we think about the transfer process?”

3. Look at each for a few seconds.

4. Conclude “Looks good!”

5. Erupt in wild laughter.

6. Light up the stogies.

7. Go to lunch.

I won’t hold my breath waiting for them to come up with anything meaningful. The Fields case was a good time for them to pump the brakes on transfers and they spit the bit with a rubber stamp.

They've been reviewing the transfer system the last year or two via the "Transfer Working Group"

I doubt there are any surprises come the spring
In fact, they’re the ones who instituted the new “mitigating circumstances” rule which allowed Patterson and Fields et al to get a waiver. If the Presidents have a problem with the rule then it’s odd that UGA and Ole Miss, respectively, agreed to support those waivers.

Its all about preserving the $$$ big money that the NCAA and The Universities and, obviously those who feed off the college football goldmine with six and seven figure salaries, want to maintain. I think they may have shot themselves in the ass this time with free agent transfers. I sort of hope it turns into a disaster...greedy SOBs.

Who cares. Coaches move around without any penalties, why can’t players? CFB is the “unprofessional” league. It’s about time players can do as the coaches do. Yes, pay the kids too. They, in some cases, deserve it more than these half assed coaches! It is what it is. Why pretend it’s 20 years ago. Blame TV, the NCAA, and the shoe companies for the cesspool it is. Same with CBB. It’s a large corporation. Employment at will.

They should just go with the one idea they had in that there are no waivers. You have to sit out a year. But if you'd be losing a year of eligibility as a result, you can have that year added to the end of your career.

Ok, I’ve checked my magic eight ball and see only three things for certain. Buffet, collect check, verify retirement fund. After that, not so much.

The “Grad Transfer” thing is as bad as anything that has happened recently - - - vav promoting an actual “student-athlete” model.

Folks who had foresight (and common sense) could see that coming the day that inane debacle was announced.

The huge majority of grad transfers no one has ever heard of before. It's been a good rule.

Let me put it in simpler terms.

How many grad transfers that you know of have transferred solely to upgrade their status in college football? How many have been able to use the grad transfer waiver to make a better name for themselves? Hardly any at all.

Fact is, the majority of grad transfers are transferring somewhere to get the playing time they weren't going to get at their last school. Which, oddly enough, explains every grad transfer PSU had this past year.

Russell Wilson says hi.

But seriously they should just make it that kids can transfer after 2 years if they are in good academic standing, meaning 2.0 GPA or better. It wouldn’t be all out free agency, but would give kids options.
