...Hyperthyroid cat (the now 13 y/o kitten in my sig pic) going in a week from Monday. It's basically a shot (no anesthesia), then in a cage for 3 days, then quarantined here for 2 weeks.

The litter disposal instructions are pretty bizarre. They want me to fill a sealed bucket and label it "radioactive waste". I'm trying to think how many national, state, and local agencies my neighbors would involve were I to leave something like that next to the dumpster. It would be fun to see them poking at it and gathering around it, while picking the "radioactive waste" expert among themselves. I may need to install a camera.

Good success rate though, and everyone I talked to that knew my cat as well as the procedure said it was a no-brainer. We'll see.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat's issue. I don't have any insight, but I hope everything goes well.

It's basically a permanent cure as opposed to twice a day medication for life. Here's what he looks like today:

I only know about treating humans with I-131 for hyperthyroidism. Its a lot easier since humans can use the toilet. Treating thyroid cancer with I-131 is a bit more complicated.

Got my dog back today - a day early. I think he probably meowed the entire time and they couldn't wait to get rid of him. Good Doctors, staff. Would recommend this procedure to anyone over forever medication. He's in the spare bedroom by himself for a week or two, but he's alive and he's home. Happy MtNittany.
