The claim that Russia is trying to recreate the soviet union is nonsense, there’s no evidence to support that. This is all about NATO expansion and the wests efforts to make Ukraine a bulwark on Russia’s borders. This created what Russia viewed as an existential threat right on their doorstep. This is also why losing isn’t an option for Putin and that’s why he didn’t take the use of nukes off the table.
