Protection on game day set

I did not know that the set of the game day show had a net on the back of the set until I saw a crew member move it while mushmouth was taking a selfie. Is that to protect the "talent" from and kaka coming their way?
 
The net has been there for a number of years. IIRC, they started using it after the crew was hit by a throw drink at a campus I can't recall. Get a bunch of drunk college kids together and someone is bound to throw something.

It’s to protect them from the urine filled balloons!:eek:
 
It's also a screen to 'mask' the potential vast difference in light between the stage and the background. In some places, if they didn't have that, the 'blowout factor' would make it very aesthetically displeasing from a TV standpoint.

But yes, it's also there in case someone tries to throw something at the set, which I've seen at a couple of places in the past.
