I received the following e-mail message from PS4RS this evening:
"PENN STATE ADVOCACY GROUP APPLAUDS PA SPORTS HALL OF FAME FOR HONORING JOE PATERNO
“The time has come to celebrate the contributions of a great educator, humanitarian and coach.”
OCTOBER 21, 2015 ---- On Saturday, October 24, 2015, Joe Paterno will be inducted posthumously into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame at the Valley Forge Casino Resort. He will be inducted with former Penn State players Chuck Fusina and Matt Bahr; and alongside 15 previously inducted Nittany Lions, including Ralph Baker, Jimmy Cefalo, Scott Fitzkee, Franco Harris, Dave Joyner, Richie Lucas, Lenny Moore, Mike Munchak, Glenn Ressler, Mickey Shuler, Tom Shuman, Chuck Sieminski, Stephen Smear, Steve Suhey and Blair Thomas. That 17 players and a coach comprise the largest contingent of one entity within the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame is no surprise; rather, it is a ringing endorsement of Paterno’s unique 61-year “Grand Experiment” in which he successfully demanded both academic and athletic excellence from his players, together with the highest integrity and honor.
Penn Staters for Responsible Stewardship (PS4RS), a grassroots advocacy group comprised of more than 40,000 Penn State alumni and supporters, commends the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame for honoring Paterno for his 409 wins and two national championships during 46 seasons as head coach at Penn State. Far more importantly, however, the organization views this honor for Joe and the Paterno family as a firm indication that the public at large is finally understanding, four years later, that Joe Paterno was in no way involved in a purported “cover up” at Penn State.
“It has been unfortunate that a rush to judgment, sadly led by an incompetent Board of Trustees, somehow managed to sweep up Joe Paterno, arguably the university’s most loyal and generous employee, in a tidal wave of lies,” said Maribeth Roman Schmidt, PS4RS spokesperson. “The time has come to move on from the misinformation and celebrate the contributions of a great educator, humanitarian and coach. When we lead our lives with generosity, commitment and humility, we carry on the legacy of Joseph V. Paterno, one of the truly great leaders of our time.”"
