PSU has surrendered 171 points through 11 games (Wisconsin #2 in b1g at 174 points surrendered through 11 games).

Between this stat and the fact that MSU has one of the worst Pass Defenses in the Country (giving up 340 Passing Yards per game), you have to like PSU's chances.

Just looked it up, MSU has the worst Pass Defense in FBS (they're 340 Passing Yards per game is 130th of 130 FBS teams - just to put it in perspective, the next worst Passing Defense, 129th of 130 New Mexico State, has given up 306 passing yards per game).

The hardest part about the 4 losses is they were by 2,3,4 and 9 points
Similar to the 2002 team. Very good team a couple plays away from having a great season. Some is bad luck, some is lack of execution at key points and some is the other team has guys good enough to make plays too. Everyone wants to assess blame but it’s just the way sports are sometimes.

Brent Pry’s agent (if he has one) is getting calls.

No, the hardest part was that Pry’s vaunted Defense gave up leads as usual and turned wins into losses in 3 of those games. He’s no better than Bradley, another overrated mediocrity whose defenses gave up 4th quarter leads far too often. We were WINNING vs Iowa by 2 TDS, we were winning vs UM with less than 4 minutes to go in the game. The D blew it, just like last seasons crucial Indiana game, just like vs O$U in 2017 AND 2018. Just like vs MSU in 2018. If I want to shut out Rutgers - Pry is the guy. If I want to hold a lead against a good team?

I agree that Pry is “good” not “elite” because over the years I’ve seen just ok player development, poor tackling at times, inconsistent pass rush from DL, odd blitz schemes, lackluster LB play (his department), CBs almost never playing the ball, and the horrible safety play (hopefully remedied with new coach).

But give credit where it’s due, they’ve been physical and generally very good this year. Only games I was disappointed with the defense was Michigan for allowing all touchdowns, and of course Illinois for not adjusting to stop the run.

Defense got no help from the O against Iowa and held up well. Against Ohio State, who has NFL talent at literally every offensive position, they held up better than literally anyone else this season.

Nice work by the staff to hodge-lodge together solid personnel from juco and the portal and turn it into a strong unit. Would love to see improvement, but it would be ridiculous to complain about the defense this year.

Our D is solid. I would like to think that Illinois game was an aberration in terms of not being able to stop the run. We have improved since then as our young DTs get more playing time.

My concern is if we are in a tight one can we limit/not allow the big play? 5 minutes left, tie game or nursing a small lead seems to be our kryptonite on D. The Iowa and scUM TDs we gave up were both fatal.

Not to quibble, but I think seven of those points came from a DL from OSU picking up and running the ball for a TD. So, not sure that goes against the PSU D. I cannot think of another defensive score though.

Poor offensive line. Every loss is directly attributable to the offensive line.

Yeah but in 2002 it was Larry Johnson Jr and the oline getting hosed out of the Nissan Frat House Award and Bret Munthsberger was in charge of Kirk Herdstreen's tap dancing azz.

This is an insane take that suggests you don't know anything about CFB.

Yep. Pry has had a problem with Q4 leads in big games.... but defense has been elite this year and has really been the shining star in a forgettable season. Oh what could have been with 4 returning starters on the OL and a stable of 4 star RBs.

By the 4th quarter, the D is physically exhausted from spending the whole damn day on the field, thanks to the 3-and-out offense.
