PSU AD finances

Some of us said that over a year ago.

But it didn’t prevent Babs from throwing a Seven-Figure paycheck to Populous - - - to tell her “You’re Natatorium sucks, and you really don’t have any Soccer facilities to speak of”.......
something that you, I, or the Unicorn in Old Main coulda’ told Babs for “significantly less” than Seven-Figures :)

I got to sit in a meeting them before ICA master plan was revealed. I left it laughing in regards to their ideal dream master plan. No more Mr Pegulas out there right now willing to drop serious coin on ICA and do not think he will be dropping another $100M for athletics again as they burnt that bridge from what I am told.

Thanks. So do they plan to say anything about the status of the Plan or will they let it wither away and hope that everyone forgets about it?

If ground is broke on any new building for ICA in next 3 years I will be surprised but maybe ICA will decide to take on more new debt soon. Or maybe they will hire 20 more folks with AD somewhere in the title.

How did they burn the bridge with Pegula?

I find it interesting that no big donors are out there. CR66 smugly told us that nobody would miss our little bits of money, since big donors that were friends of the BOT power base would gladly fill in the gaps, and then some. I guess not.

Interesting stuff, thanks. Never thought that Pegula would be a benefactor at the same level, albeit for other reasons, which are neither here nor there. Your observation about burning bridges is consistent with some anecdotal evidence I have on how PSU isn't particularly good at handling major donors, or potential ones.

Master Plan is so ambitious that I don't think that there is a school out there that has enough whales to finance it. My approach would be to prioritize pieces. Beaver Stadium and a basketball facility would definitely come before anything outlined as part of Phase I.

I can think of one person who used to be pretty good at handling major donors. Apparently the bot didn't consider that a priority given their prior and current handling of a certain situation. What the bot refuses to recognize, is that they are also missing an opportunity to re-engage certain individuals who actually would have been able to cash in on the goodwill that said individual had generated. Now, with their infinite wisdom, the bot has people like Frau Barron, Sandy, and criminal extraordinaire Dambly on point. The brilliance of the plan defies logic.

Personally, I've never particularly cared for Pegula. I remember what he said as the scandal unfolded, and all the checks he wrote or could write cannot undue the damage that was done to the university. I look at the name on the hockey building the same way I look at the name on the creamery. As an aside, didn't Pegula, or maybe it was one of his key employees, have fairly significant 2nd Mile ties on their resume that suddenly disappeared when Sandusky was started to be investigated. I just remember the dates lining up so perfectly that I was rather stunned by what Pegula had uttered.

Just another interesting connect-the-dots type of situation, as you say.

You do wonder, what the hell was going on with Second Mile? I don't think all of these guys were hanging with JS, but an awful lot of them were on board with that organization one way or another.

None of the sordid stuff would be in any records, and yet they got shredded almost immediately. It almost makes you think about Second Mile being used for money laundering or some such thing.

Know very little about Pegula. As far as his interest in and giving to PSU athletics, just got the sense that it didn't extend much beyond hockey. Figured that once he got his trophy with his name on it, he was largely done.

The screwup on the donor side with which I'm most familiar was done by one of their so-called professionals. Funny because he lists "crisis fundraising" on his resume'.

Are you kidding me? 90% of Centre County had ties in one way or another to the Second Mile. They were a highly record charitable organization that did a lot of good work for disadvantage kids. Taking a broad brush and painting everyone connected with the Second Mile as some sort of child abuse enabler is absurd. What's even more absurd is suggesting that cutting ties with the Second Mile, once Sandusky's actions became public, is evidence that there was something sneaky going on. Once the news broke, there was a veritable stampede to get away from the Second Mile. You can't fault anyone for that.

Why? If it was such a great organization, and I'm not saying it wasn't, then why didn't stalwart individuals stand up and defend it, and not let it be tarnished by the acts of one sick man? If it was so highly regarded, and if it was helped by so many upstanding citizens (as I am sure it was), then why was it gutted and burned to the ground in about 5 minutes after the JS news broke? Why didn't anybody stand up and defend it, rather than let all of them get painted with a broad brush?

The Second Mile chapter of this entire affair is where the truth lies.

No, this was right when the investigation began and long before anything was public.

Corbett tried to defend them and sent them more money.
