I’ll be in Athens during the Cotton Bowl (glad its a noon ET start). Anyone know of a Penn State bar (or other PSU-friendly spot) to watch the game?

There are always lots of Greeks at the P Man, not sure about PSU bars in Greece

Best bet may be one of the larger hotel bars ( Hilton/Marriott) in downtown Athens. —It’s possible that a PSU grad now owns/runs a family Taverna in Athens, or on the outskirts.....like Kafissia, Glyfada, or Ano Glyfada....JMO

Thanks, yeah I’ll watch from my hotel room or another hotel lobby if I can’t find a bar with other alums. Hopefully they have ESPN...

We stayed at The Athens Gate Hotel, nice views at night and while eating breakfast. It was affordable and served our purpose for our brief stay in Athens after being in Naxos and Santorini.

Yup looking at that one too - thanks.

this summer wife and I stayed at Hotel Philippos. Smaller boutique type hotel. Larger sister hotel Hotel Herodion is right around the corner. Stay at 1, get access to the other. Nice spot, with rooftop bars that have a nice views of the S side of the Parthenon. Maybe a 3 minute walk to the Acropolis museum, 10-15 minute walk to the entrance to the Parthenon, 10 minute walk to the temple of the Olympian Zeus, and maybe a 5 minute walk to the southern tip of the Plaka. If you stay at either, you HAVE to eat at To Kati Allo, and have their pig (cooked on a spit all day)

we also went to the Athens Gate hotel for dinner one might. The rooftop restaurant was nice and had a great (probably the best) view of the Acropolis and the temple of the Olympian Zeus, but it’s right on a main busy road.

Thanks

Not to sidebar this conversation, but where are you staying in Athens? I need to book a hotel for July.
I’m at the Hera Hotel, right next to the Acropolis Museum. Great location. Because it’s so close to the Plaka district- tons of restaurants. And very close to Acropolis itself.

I've used Booking.com. We had decent luck with "B&B"s in Italy. The idea seems to be that a floor of an apartment building is converted into small rooms--or, like in Pompeii, a couple of guest rooms are built onto the main house. This is European style and not American (i.e. smaller) but all the places we stayed were under $100 a night (the place in Pompeii was $60--for three (my niece was traveling with us) and clean. In Rome, we were a half block from the entrance to the Vatican Museums. Wasn't always perfect (the hot water did not work in Pompeii, supposedly because of a city utility issue--but when it is 90+ deg out, that matters less). In all of the places, except the first which did not have it, the AC worked fine. Given that it ran over 100 deg for our time in Florence, that was a blessing.

come out of your hotel, turn right and walk towards the museum (about 100 meters). Turn left at the 5 way intersection and walk along the side of the museum for about 50 meters and on the left is To Kati Allo. Get the pork from the spit (but you have to go early cause it’s sometimes sold out by 2-3pm). Best I’ve ever had!!

Thanks for the tip- will check that out tomorrow before the game. Must have been past it earlier as I was getting in the Hop On Hop Off bus there behind the museum.
