I'm wondering if there is any value to defensive analytics, somewhat similar to the plus minus rating in hockey. What if you took each play, what happened on that play and who was on the field and came up with a rating for each player to get your 11 best in each pass or run situation. I supposed it would confirm what the coaches already know. For example, every running play that player X was on the field went for 3.7 yards, but 5.8 yards for player Y.
