Period 1

PSU in alternate gray unis tonight.

Penn State with a couple early shots on goal, still 0-0 @ 18:28
McMenamin with a goal, but under review for possible kicking
Goal stands, 1-0 PSU @ 17:07

Penn State probably slightly ahead in possession, but pretty close. Niagara leads SOG 7-5. Still 1-0 @ 9:30.

Niagara starts a power play @ 9:22.
PP killed with no shots.

PSU with about four quality shots, but one just missed the net and the rest saved. Still 1-0 @ 4:26. PSU about to start their first power play.

Nice possession and rotation on the power play. Four or five shots on goal, but no scoring.

Too many men for PSU. Niagara on pp @ 1:46.

Period ends. 1-0 PSU. Still 12 seconds left on Niagara’s power play.

Period 2

Niagara power play over but they’re right back on a new one @ 19:14
Penn State almost got a short-handed goal. Niagara PP over.

Niagara with a strong scoring chance. Ruled no goal, but under review. Niagara tipped puck toward net and then player crashed into Autio. Review over... no goal.

Another Penn State penalty. A few boos from the crowd directed at the referees. Niagara PP @ 16:06.
Biro with a short-handed breakaway, but turned away by Niagara. PP over.

Penn State’s power play defense has been solid. I think they’ve only given up one shot on four power plays. They even have two of their own shots while short-handed on those four power plays.

Still 1-0 @ 10:30.

McMenamin with another quality shot, but saved by Niagara. PSU leading SOG 21-13. Still 1-0 @ 6:30.

Bad change by PSU but good save by Autio @ 6:09.

Simultaneous penalties followed shortly by a PSU penalty, so 4-on-3 @ 4:42.
A couple nice saves by Autio. Now 5-on-4 for just under a minute.
Cleared by Penn State. Back to 5-on-5.

Biro with some nice moves, but stopped by Niagara’s goalie.

Slashing by Niagara. PSU PP @ 0:52.

Period ends, still 1-0 PSU. SOG 24-16 PSU, despite Niagara 5-2 PP advantage.

Period 3

Niagara penalty, so 5-on-3 right away.

Penn State goal!!! 2-0. Pavlychev with the score.

Still 5-on-4 for a minute.
PP over @ 17:54.

PSU still up 2-0 @ 15:00. SOG 31-18 PSU.

Elbowing, Purple Eagles. PSU power play @ 13:29.
About four shots on that power play, but no scoring. SOG now 36-18.

Really nice pass from Snell to Barratt. Better save by Niagara.
PSU 2-0 @ 10:00.

Another Penn State power play @ 8:48.
A couple more shots, but no scoring. PP over.

Still PSU 2-0 @ 5:00.

4:00

Niagara pulled the goalie, but he had to come back in for a face off.

3:00

Empty net again.

2:00

Wow, Niagara somehow blocks an empty net attempt, then Autio makes a fantastic save at the other end.

1:00

Easy save by Autio @ 0:37.

5.9 left!

Game over! PSU wins 2-0!!! They outshoot Niagara 44-24. A good week for Penn State football, basketball, and hockey helps make up for the Steelers, Bears, Redskins, Cardinals, and Blackhawks all sucking.

Start of Period 2. Updates in original post to make it easier to read.

Props to Niagara for fighting hard both nights. Our guys need to play better as Robert Morris is going to fight hard as well. Have to get groove back before B1G play resuming.

Hope they get Limoges back soon. He missed both games.

He is hardly fragile.

Anyone know what’s up with Limoges? I think he finished the Michigan series uninjured, but then didn’t play at all at ND. Injury? Academic issue?

He was sitting in front of us with his parents last night. I did not see Talvitie with the other players or down front with family. The scratched players sit one row below us to the right, and the players' families sit down by the glass below us. According to Black Shoe Diaries:

https://www.blackshoediaries.com/20...ockey-completes-sweep-of-niagara-with-2-0-win

"Two key pieces of Penn State’s offense, Alex Limoges and Aarne Talvitie, were out this weekend with injury and family emergency, respectively. But with the Nittany Lions depth and next-man-up mentality, it can be concerning to produce five goals in a weekend for a team more used to producing five goals in a period."
