PSU involved in Joe Buck deal with ESPN.

Does anybody actually watch a game because Joe Buck is the announcer? I never understood these huge contracts for announcers as 99% of the people I know watch to see the teams in the game and as long as the announcer is not horrible, don't care who is announcing for the most part.

You're right, Joe Buck is horrible. I just thought it was interesting that we were involved in that idiot making himself richer. I may watch some prime games on Fox this year, but the streaming service I got last year featured the NFL Redzone and I found that more entertaining than listening to a couple of moron's for 3 1/2 hours.

When I first saw this article it was thought the trade was for the Notre Dame-Ohio State game which I would have to think would be more valuable than Penn State @ Purdue.

Does this mean Buck is finally off of MLB from Fox? I can tolerate him for NFL but he's lousy with baseball broadcasting.

He’s off of Fox entirely, which includes their MLB broadcasts. It’s possible that he may also do MLB on ESPN eventually, but it doesn’t look like it for this upcoming season.

I watch games because teams I root for are involved, or because I like watching the sport in general. Announcers have no impact on the first criteria, I'll watch regardless of who the commentators are. For the 2nd criteria, I won't tune in because of who is announcing, but I might turn it off if I find the announcers annoying if it's a game that doesn't involve the teams I root for. Joe Buck isn't annoying enough to cause me to change the channel though.

people certainly turn off broadcasts because of the people yapping in the booth... just ask Dan Dierdorf, Brian Griese, Brock Huard, Beth Mowins, Matt Millen , Doug Flutie...

There's a lot worse out there, don't get me started.

I only watch if Beth Mowins or Booger McF is announcing. Thank goodness for Alexa search on my TV.

I think the real reason Buck was let out of his deal was because he was obsessed with losing his hair and spent to much time having a myriad of hair transplant procedures. He's been a serial hair transplant patient since early in his career having had double digit procedures and one that temporarily cost him his ability to speak. ;)

I can't remember the last time I actually listened to announcers of a sporting event. I usually mute the television and just watch the game. If I feel I need clarification as to something that happened, I might unmute it, but that does not happen often.

What’s the issue then? I don’t see it.
The part where Harbest says he thought that it was interesting that we (PSU) made that idiot (Buck) richer. I think he actually believed the article or didn't read it.

Which article is the spoof, the Post or Sports Business Journal? I'm reading elsewhere about the PSU-PUR game being reserved for FOX as part of the Buck deal so I don't understand what's with the spoof comment. Looks legit.

Agree. Another product of nepotism. He is a complete bore and not sure how Aikman stands him (I'm guessing he doesn't).

Paying on air talent like this is a solid way for management to pat themselves on the back and pay themselves more.

Despite articles written by these companies saying otherwise, I don't think anyone cares much who is doing the announcing subject to them being 'Normal'

Large Corporations aren't rational about these things.

Did Brian Griese get canned? I hope so. His sidekick Riddick was lousy too. The commentator Levy is barely tolerable. Joe Buck is not an upgrade. The best option for MNF is to turn on Peyton and Eli. If it is the Steelers watch with mute on.

I think Tony Romo is pretty good. I think a lot of that has to do with him being so close to his playing days so he knows a bulk of the players and has played and studied against the defensive coordinators. I think as time goes on, some of that detailed knowledge will begin to wain as new coordinators and players cycle through and he gets farther away. But for now, he is the best in my opinion.

Peyton and Eli are good if you are watching a game with little rooting interest. They often go off on tangents with their guests which can be very interesting but end up ignoring the game for long periods. Not good if you are rooting for or against one of the teams.
But when they are actually discussing the game they have good insight.

Same is true for voice overs in animated movies and TV shows. The money paid is ridiculous. Does anyone really give a shit if Tom Hanks is the voice of Woody?

I agree he is rough but I'd take him over Beth Mowins in a heartbeat...which isn't saying much
I know I'm likely in the minority but I'd listen to Beth or probably any random person they could find over Millen. Millen was a great player but he might actually be worse at announcing than he was as a GM and that's saying a lot.

What parents in their right(?) minds name their son "Booger"? For whatever reason, there wasn't a lot of thought put into that.

Beth Mowins broadcasting our games coincided with us becoming less competitive at the top of our league. When I hear her voice I know we are in a shitty timeslot on an ESPN stepchild...makes me cringe 😬

Okay--this is one of the most accurate things I've read here. I don't think she's THAT bad but if she's doing our game we're either playing a horrible team or we're not very good or both.
