Was surprised to see that InterMat ranked our next recruiting class #22. I’m not as up to speed on recruiting as many of you, but it’s hard to imagine PSU ranked #22 in anything related to wrestling. If true, I guess this starts our fall back to earth since, as HR has eloquently informed us, Cael’s only advantage is recruiting. ;)

1. Ohio State
2. Arizona State

Edit: I guess I'll be better than a smart Alec. Ball and Starocci are our best recruits of this class. But look at the grey shirts: Joe Lee, Brooks, Beard, and Nevills. All starting their enrollment in the same year. Not sure how they do the math, but I think that would put us at the top of the heap.

Everyone can think we're falling behind if they want, Cael has a plan.

Exactly. Hell, I remember a few years ago, Pitt’s recruiting class was ranked ahead of Penn State’s.

Add in the Greyshirts, which they absolutely should, and you have what might be the best recruiting class ever.
I believe the greyshirt guys were included in rankings for the previous year (2018). Can't count them twice.

Also, Ohio State's class is stacked, headlined by Kerkvliet, Kharchla, D'Emilio, and the two Decatur brothers. That's legit.

They typically put equal value in top 100 prospects when they shouldn’t. As usual, quantity over quality wins out. PSU just has one real stud in Starocci but Ball has a Cassar thing to him so who knows. But, as stated earlier, Brooks, Beard, and Nevills were #1 a year ago and delayed so they are entering this year. No worries. Cael has a plan to dominate the world!

It's an ancient military tactic. Fall back so that your enemy becomes emboldened and rushes forward only to be dismantled charging headfirst into disaster. Much like tOSU did last year when they had assembled the "greatest dual team of all time" (Ryan's anointment not mine) only to be humbled by a shorthanded Lions squad.
Talk continues to be valued as cheap.

People spend hours staring at their phones but are still baffled by Google.

The old double envelopment

Let's see.......25 teams ranked and 4 Honorable mentions. Does that mean Pitt can brag about being 30th?...….:)

Actually I thought they would be ranked. We will find out when I post MY more unbiased rankings :)

Rutgers just outside the top 10 :)

^^ This. Not all classes are created equal. 2018 was a monster class overall, and Cael cleaned up.

2019 is a down year overall. Cael only needed 1 guy (Starocci) and got him.

It's almost as if he has a plan.

Am sure they all have 3 or so year plans tacked to the wall. Recruit 2 years ahead in all sports. In no way am I discounting our leadership ( that would be foolhardy), but imo, Ohio State has had several really good years. And with our upcoming grads, I hope the next year or two are as good to us as in the past.
Quality over Quantity, everyday for me.

Note that their recruiting by rank has been better than us the last 5 years.

I was going to note the same thing with the question why is that? Other than a homeboy, why would a kid choose to go to Ohio State over Penn State? Granted a fantastic program but o pass on wrestling for Cael, I just don't get it. Individuals like Kirk makes sense because he gets to train with Snyder everyday but the rest is a slight head-scratcher for me, the evidence is in Cael gets the most out of his wrestlers. We're most be slush fund. I'll have to check over on HR, they must have some facts.

In the end Cael has an eye for talent that doesn't always align with the pundits.

Greatest dual team ever turned out to be false. However, best second best team ever gets it done.

I have no doubt that they are our biggest threat, but looking strictly at class rankings causes people to fall into the Mack Brown trap. He’d essentially look at the top 55 TX high school ranking (not sure why it is top 55 but it is) and pluck guys from it - sometimes seemingly blindly. He won 1 NC despite “winning” recruiting almost every year and they should have lost in 2005 save for the Herculean performance of Vince Young.

We need top talent, but they have to fit into the lineup and culture. We had a small class and low ranking in Cenzo’s year, but we surrounded that year with great classes. I’d expect Cael and crew to hit this year and next year hard to prep for the loss of a lot of talent last year and this year.

I won't be surprised if Howard is the only big name we get in 2020 -- the class is largely picked over, and the remaining top 20 guys are all unlikely.

But the 2021 and 2022 classes are both loaded and largely untapped. And all of the grayshirts, transfers, and 6th years have the roster aligned toward FULL COURT PRESS !!!! those two years.

The pattern seems to be a really big class or two followed by some smaller classes. Then when the previous big class is clearing out, the new big one follows.
