PSU verbal QB Justin Fields now a 247 composite 5 star, #1 dual threat QB in country

DT's Hawkins and Tyreke Smith are both way underrated for the quality of offers they have. I like where we stand with both of them. Would be a crazy DT class.

Fields looks like an amazing fit for our offense. He seems a solid commitment for PSU. My only concern is if JoMo leaves before signing day

It seems more likely than not that we keep him.

Good job by the staff identifying him early when he was only a 3 star and everyone here was clamoring for Jurkovec

That's not really an issue if he's an early enrollee, unless JoMo leaves before the spring semester starts.

Pleaselethimstaycommitedpleaselethimstaycommitted....... Most important recruit in the 2018 class because of his rating combined with the fact that he's a quarterback. Rivals still has him in the 100s. Maybe they didn't re-evaluate him yet.

Rivals never got Saquon Barkley into the top 100, either. He's turned out okay so far. ;)

It's more of a commentary on Rivals than on Fields.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I made a comment shortly after he committed that I would be surprised if he signed with PSU and didn't wind up staying south. A few of the board experts had a problem with my opinion. So, I'll be a little more detailed now and this will be my last post about JF.

He commits to PSU and a few weeks later he is taking a visit to UF and says some nice things about their program. Not necessarily a big deal by itself. Now, he is talking about taking all 5 of his visits which I am sure will include one to PSU and 4 to "local" SEC/ACC powerhouses. So now, one of your supposed class leaders is taking official visits elsewhere - yada yada yada I've heard all the pro/con arguments on that topic.

I also read a recent article that was posted in which he was interviewed and frankly, it sounded like he was as strongly committed to PSU as was Brandon Wimbush. There were several "I'm committed to PSU for now" quotes. Of course, who knows how accurate the author's quotes were in that story.

He also talked about his relationship with PSU which seemed to be focused on Moorhead. He had some comments about things changing if Franklin or Moorhead were to leave, but he didn't expect that to happen. Well, I don't expect Franklin to leave, but I think we all expect Moorhead to leave sooner rather than later. There are a couple of comments above from someone who thought Moorhead wouldn't leave prior to signing date or when JF would arrive as an ee. That couldn't be more inaccurate - if JM gets the big time offer that he is looking for, it will likely be in the days after the end of the regular season and he would certainly be gone prior to a January ee date or before Feb. signing date. A Moorhead departure could have an impact on JF's decision and it wouldn't work in our favor. That could be the "out" that he might use to justify changing his mind.

Finally, I just think there will be a lot of pressure for the kid to stay south with a big-time SEC/ACC program where his family and friends can drive to see him play almost every week. I hope he comes to PSU and the Judge tells us that 90-95% of verbals stick with their original commitment. It's just my opinion that this kid will be one of the 5-10%' ers. Best of luck to him no matter how this plays out.

When did Fields visit UF? He was at a regional Elite 11 camp at Orlando a month ago. I'm not aware of a UF visit since he verbaled.

Second of all, why is this so important to you to be right that he decommitts from Penn State? As I said before, we are all aware it's a possibility. Yes, lets congratulate you now that if he were to drop Penn State, YOU CALLED IT MAN. YOU WERE ALL OVER THAT SHIT. Johnny, tell him what he's won!

I really believe he is solid. He might have to make a choice between two loves though. Maybe he can pull off playing baseball and football at a northern school. Guys like Samardzija and Henson pulled it off.

He is likely to be drafted and definitely has the baseball talent to be a star baseball player as well. I just hope he doesn't get taken in by the idea of playing baseball for a program that is also elite down south.

Didn't know he was a highly touted baseball prospect also. If he's good enough to be a high baseball pick (have no idea if he is or not ) he'd be crazy to play football

Maybe for long term physical reasons, but he can certainly make more than enough money playing football. There hasn't been a pro baseball player in the top ten world's highest paid athletes list since at least 2012 (noting there have been five NFL players - all QB's - on that list since then, including Cam Newton last year).

blah, blah, blah, etc. etc., look at me, etc.

I took the liberty of bolding the best part of your commentary

I believe he was asked point blank if he would leave if JoMo did and he said he committed for a lot of different reasons and that was not the only one. Further, I don't know why anyone would assume JoMo is leaving after this year. I have said it before and I'll say it again, Kirby Smart. He should hold out for a top 10 job. Otherwise, don't leave. He may also want to see how much he can win as an offensive coordinator and very well might command the most money of any O coordinator in the country next offseason.

Also, Field is not eligible until next years MLB draft and for how good this kid is at football, I really doubt he would choose baseball at this point, especially for the student he is too. I couldn't find him on any too early 2018 MLB draft sites.

Huh? Are you talking for a single season salary? Then maybe (although I still am not sure that's accurate other than the years QBs get their signing bonus)

But the biggest sports Contracts in North American sports have all been baseball And it's not close

And it's only the Elite QBs who make that money

Friggin Jacoby Elsbury makes over $21 million a year

JoeMo recently said not everyone has ambitions of being a head coach and that he's very happy with his current role in Happy Valley.

Ryan Howard at $25,000,000 a year, a contract that just ended, I think. Sickening.

I believe it was written up in an interview that he's sort of done with the baseball thing after this season. He's enrolling early so this is it.

Who, in the college game right now, would you compare the style of Fields to? Just wondering, I have not seen the tape yet...

I'm hoping joe will stay now because of fields commit to the program. And the whole team trending up. A lot of big time recruits looking to be apart of something special
