Based upon actual experience, it appears the counry is suffering from a lima bean (small, canned variety) shortage.
Stock up if you can find any.

My #1 favorite vegetable. And I'm sure I'm on a small list

I love em'. I could eat lima beans in butter every day. Yummmmm!

One of my favorite meals is the pork chop with butter beans at The Little Owl in NYC. Underrated veggie for sure.

No biggie. There's a city in Peru where they are grown and have plenty.

Apparently, a long time ago the area surrounding Cape May, NJ was all Lima bean farms and Fordhook and Green Giant would buy up all the Lima beans. After harvest there would be a big celebration.

Those farms are gone but Cape May celebrates the history by hosting a “Lima Bean Festival” every year around the first weekend in October. It’s small and also doubles as a flea market but you can get Lima bean soup, Lima bean chili, Lima bean empanadas, and plain old Lima beans, in addition to the usual hats, Ts, and other Lima bean themed items. A good time and Cape May is very nice.

Lima beans are one of the highest sources of potassium. Low potassium can cause heart rhythm irregularities and other problems. Wife last month was hospitalized for low K.
