If you can believe this, on his weekly radio show today, Shelton said that he is sticking with Bednar as the closer right now. I know that the Phillies are happy about that.

Yep. Finished the 9th. It was a good save he needed to get under his belt.
Well, Chapman struggled in the 8th and Bednar was strong in the ninth. Think again.
Chapman didn’t struggle. He inherited two base runners. Got Harper. Then walked two including a run to make it 5-2 and then struck out Realmuto.
Apparently the blue and yellow was a nod to the settlement of New Sweden which preceded the city of Philadelphia. They looked like a cross between a beer league and an eight year old’s pajamas.
Now that’s a throwback uniform. Going back to before it was Philadelphia!
Struggle can be a term in the eye of the beholder. Walking a guy to bring the tying run to the plate, and then another walk to bring in a run, wouldn’t be described with a positive term.
The good news is they won. The good for Chapman is it was someone else’s run, so he keeps his 0.00 ERA.
Coming into a 5-1 game in the late innings with 2 inherited runners and closing out the inning with only a 5-2 score by getting two very clutch hitters out is a win in my book.

The Pirates broadcast team said that only 160 major league players have hit 300 home runs. Remarkable.
With the modern emphasis on HRs, I'd expect thar number to go up quite a bit in the next 10 years.
You’re right. They said in 1986 the year McCutchen was born the number was only around 50. Home runs are trending.
The losing has begun. Dropped 3 straight to the Mets, lost a starting pitcher, and of course Nutting is slow playing Skenes, so they automatically lose whichever starter takes that place every 5 games. Idiot manager pulled Jones too early the other night, so if you are scoring at home that 2 games this minor league bum has lost all by himself and the season isn't even 20 games old. He'll lose at least a dozen more this year with his clown act.
Right now, this team isn’t even as good as last season’s team. They strike out in double figures almost every game and play defense like a beer league team, and the bullpen, which was supposed to be a strength, has been average at best. Moreover, their Gold Glove third baseman, who’s always hurt, is out again with a bad back. Finally, players like Cruz and Davis, who are supposed to be young difference makers, have been awful offensively.
The real problem for the Pirates is any talent they have will be somewhere else in the near future.
In fairness, they have signed players like Reynolds, Hayes and Keller to long term contracts recently, but history says that you’re probably right.
It is my belief that management has told the manager to have a strict pitch count on Jones. It’s out if Sheltons control. Incredible number of young pitchers blow their elbows.
Pirates are not looking for a playoff spot to this year. They are plugging in young guys with their eyes on next year and a couple beyond…..
Davis is beginning to look like a straight up bust. 😂 So "Piratey" to draft a damn catcher first overall, then stick him in right field, then put him behind the plate to catch, and meanwhile this kid is completely lost at the plate and is trying to pull everything. They are so poorly coached and that's another reason they don't develop.
The early returns on him aren’t promising; it doesn’t look like he’s going to be the second coming of Buster Posey.
The reason they are poorly coached is because they are poorly owned.
My problem with that is that he exceeded 60 pitches by a significant amount in his first three starts, two of which he was losing when heading out to the 6th inning.
They’ve now backed themselves in a corner with that. They can’t exceed the amount from the game they just took him out of. If they do, what reasonable explanation can there be in randomly choosing a single game that will have such a relatively small pitch count. That random game would just happen to be possibly the game of said pitcher’s career (no runs with 50 strikes in 59 pitches).
They very well may have ended up losing that game anyways, it’s just the optics of the decision making is bad. Like the Bednar game vs. Detroit.
Maybe he had considerable soreness after those longer games and the brain trust decided to cut his pitch count🤷
About one third of the Pirates lineup is Major League caliber right now which is an improvement over the past few years but obviously nowhere near what is required to be competitive over a 162 game season.4 ugly losses in row...yikes
