Any word on how hex feeling? In my opinion, I think he’s still recovering from whatever happened to his head injury wise because it seemed he’d just destroy guys and then struggled against Blaze.

That match seemed off to me , I’m guessing the knock to his head affected him. That was the match wasn’t it?

he will be fine
I had a daughter who suffered a concussion, she was a swimmer at the Altoona branch campus. Yeah, she got a concussion warming up at a swim meet. Inadvertently kicked in the head during warmups. She had issues for app a year so I get worried about the health of these kids

well I am on blood thinners my DR said if I fell down go to the hosp in case of concuss not even hitting my head just any kind of even minor fall so yes very dangerous

Cutting weight when concussed isn't a wonderful idea. And read here and elsewhere that being dehydrated makes concussions easier to get.
Guessing these guys are all being concussed at bad times.

Both true, my daughter dealt with a lot of stresses post concussion so the stresses on your body due to wrestling would put it in a much more serious category.

I know that not everyone heals the same from a concussion. It took Brady Berge quite a while to get back on the mat after his head injury.

It had to kill Tyler inside to see Taylor standing on the top of the podium, after the way he ragdolled Taylor in their 2 matches.
Very frustrating for me so it had to be much more aggravating to him.

My cousin's son was a PJW state champ in 8th grade. A PIAA qualifier as a true freshman and in 10th grade he started getting headaches and eventually was diagnosed with complications of concussions. He had to stop wrestling. He tried again in 11th and 12 grade, but the headaches would begin after a couple workouts. Kid had some talent, but never saw it truly developed.

they have to come up with some better kind of head protection!
Absolutely! When I was in college, one version of head gear had an outer layer of terry cloth (towel material) and the inside of the ear protectors was a soft foam. They were actually quite comfortable. Seems to me that someone could take that design and add some extra protection that would protect the entire head rather than just the ears.

They're is no head protection that would make much difference. A concussion occurs when the brain hits the inside of the skull. That's why you can get a concussion without a blow to the head. Any thing that starts or stops the head motion(think whiplash) can cause the brain to hit the skull.
Football helmets prevent skull fractures, but don't protect much from concussion. That's why so many football players, and hockey players, have CTE.

Well then the solution is quite simple. Rather than wearing head protection gear, the wrestlers should be required to wear brain protection gear. 😁

A couple years ago, a football supporter purchased "Q-Collars" for our football team. I'm curious is this equipment is really effective and, if so, could these be used for wrestling?

Without doing the actual math that inch thick pad he wore on the forehead of his headgear could slow the deceleration by a factor of 10. Thus reducing the force of the impact.

It could be that Tyler had a tough weight cut that morning.

I heard that Tyler had a slight "stomach bug" for the early session. My guess is he may have re-hydrated during the day, because he looked better later that same day. Whether a real "bug" or from the "cut", both may include some dehydration from different causes. This type of recovery within such a short period of time seems logical from either cause. You see it often for football that a guy is dragging in the 1st half, given IV fluids at half-time, and is a different player in the second half.

My gut tells me, his gas tank was on empty when he lost. Kasak doesn't just lay outside for that long without trying to get up. The same thing happened at B1G's. I believe the concussion, as well as dropping weight also affected his cardio. I heard he an Beau had some issues regarding weight at the B1G's. So, who knows, but he was not himself, and that's for damn sure.

IIRC we were having the same discussions about Levi right before postseason LAST year. Hard to believe Tyler would still be having weight issues with the jump from his original 141 class, but who knows, maybe the damn kid just likes to EAT, I know my 2 boys sure liked to at his age!

The Kasak that took out Shapiro was not the same Kasak that was gassed in the second period Friday morning vs Blaze.

We will likely never know the cause, but whether it be cut, dehydration, lack of sleep, sickness, he just wasn't there, and it was obvious.

IMO he was the best kid at 157, and I feel for him, a NC opportunity lost, but I other that that blip, it was an amazing season for him. I won't be surprised in the slightest if he is battling MM for the Hodge next year. The kid's bonus rate trajectory is just straight up.

Kasak has mad skills and IMO has the fastest in-match mental processing of all of our kids. He 'feels' and opportunity and reacts, all while being strong as an ox.

I've been saying this for a while, but I believe the cut to 157 was tough for Tyler. He displayed, even before the head stuff, the signs of someone struggling with the weight class. He had several matches where he looked sluggish and gassed and others where he looked fully charged. Very inconsistent gas tank, which, imo, indicates a tough pull.

I don't disagree with your assertions here, but Kasak himself said that 157 isn't a bad pull for him and that he thinks it's a good weight for him for the next 2 years (I think he said that in his post-NCAA interview). I very rarely post anything negative about PSU guys (unless they've done something criminal or something, then the gloves come off), but I'm also one of the fans/posters who really think something was bad wrong with Tyler in the Blaze match and it wasn't the first time this season that we saw something like that. Who knows, I'm just thrilled that he looked so good on the backside and that we still get to watch him for 2 more years, as he's an incredible wrestler.
