The OSU free board is dead, so I'll ask it here. Does anyone know when Alabama last played north of the Mason-Dixon line?

Ask that for majority of the SEC. LSU I believe played at Wisky and UGA at ND for their first trip north in decades. Has Florida ever played up north? Tennessee? Would love a home and home versus any of these teams.

Pretty certain it is in Happy Valley in 2011. Even more interesting would be when has an SEC team played north of Mason-Dixon Line in October or later? Really wish northern powers would force that issue since they are invited south in sweltering August and early September.

That also might be Alabama, as some of the games in the 1980's were in October. I seem to recall the game where Blair Thomas ran 90 plus yards and did not get in for a TD as being close to Halloween.

Prior to this years game at Jerry World, Google the last time Florida played an OOC game outside of Florida.
The answer will shock you.

Well, that's not totally fair.

Florida plays Florida State OOC every year.
Then every team tries to maximize their home games...
Then there's Miami (also OOC) if they can play them.

Penn State plays one or two marquee OOC games a year. Typcially only one.

If Penn State played Pitt every years OOC, well that leaves virtually no room for PSU to play an OOC game out of the state either.

LSU also played at Syracuse a few years ago...if that counts.
UGA played Colorado I think like 8-10 years ago.
FLA not since 1986.

It is totally fair. I'm not commenting on the strength of their ooc schedule, just the fact that they never leave the friendly confines of the Sunshine state.
FSU makes for an easier road trip for fans and players than Minnesota does.

I remember one year when the Hurricanes came up to play the Mountaineers in Morgantown in late October/November. It was a 35 degree rainstorm with intermittent snow squalls.

I am inclined to believe that if the southerners were made to play up North once a year, their gaudy records against northern teams would take a hit.

We all played in our back yard when it was so cold you had to keep your hands inside your belt to warm them up between plays. What must it be like for guys who have never been outside in a 35 degree rainstorm to play in that?

All that said, it is not going to happen. Been wishing for it for 30 years. No way.

The Florida-Kentucky series history is interesting.

Prior to Spurrier showing up, Florida would play in the "cold climate" (although still warmer than any B1G school!) of Lexington in November.

After he showed up, the Lexington games have (one exception, a mid-October game) always been in September.

Hmmmm.

It is not fair because you are using it for comparison sake and they are not comparable as they play FSU ooc every year.

LdN, its not that complicated. I'm not comparing WHO they play, I'm comparing WHERE they play.
Plus SEC gets 4 OOC games so even with FSU they still have the same chances to play outside the state as any Big team would.
Plenty of P5 teams play an in state rival and don't use it as an excuse to never leave the state!

Some others:

Auburn at WVU Oct '08
Florida at Rutgers Oct '86
The Gators did play at Syracuse but indoors.
Tenn @ ND 2005
SCaro @ Pitt Oct '85

Miami has ventured north to play Pitt in November. Southern schools playing north in November are truly rare, especially SEC schools. I'm not sure if Florida State has played at BC that late in the year. FSU did play in a Game of the Century at Notre Dame and that was in November.
