...Are the ones available at the big box stores (i.e. Home Depot) as good as Weber grills from anywhere else? Or is it like some other products where they send a lesser-quality version to the big box stores? TIA, all!

No difference from what I can tell. Weber has great customer service, so I don't see how using a worse version at a big box would benefit them.

My buddy left his out uncovered, got freezing rain and snow, and he had to have a ton of parts replaced. Weber shipped everything no questions asked for free. He bought his at a big box. TIFWIW.

I bought mine at Lowe's. They assembled it and delivered it to me for 50 bucks. Great grill. I recommend going with the Summit that has the searing station.

I own 3 Weber products and have never had an issue. All 3 were bought from hardware stores. Genisis, Smokey Mountain smoker, and the little Joe for camping. My Genesis is on year 7-8 is as good as new.

I'm a Weber fan based on 12+ flawless years with a Genesis Silver C (since handed down to my nephew two years ago) ... but i must say I am underwhelmed by the Genesis E-330 Special Edition i "upgraded" to two years ago... looks pretty and more bells and whistles but simply ain't as good as the old Silver C... had I not stolen it at $500 I'd be pretty pissed... no way is it worth the $750 full retail

Weber controls pricing such that the local hardware stores and the big box stores sell at the same price. I bought a Genesis Gold in the fall of 2000. I use 18 - 20, 20 lb tanks per year (yes, I cook on it almost everyday). It sits outside with a roof that usually covers about half the grill. I replaced the flavorizer bars about a year ago. and I'll soon need to replace the grates. I love the new ones when I look at them in the stores but mine works great.

Since the cost is usually the same you should buy at the local store. They'll probably assemble and deliver it as well.

Yep, Weber uses the same retail price controls that Apple, Bose, John Deere, Honda (small engine stuff), Stihl, et al. subscribe to... the E-330 was needlessly complicated (for lack of better terms) to assemble, but it was a good exercise for my boys to learn wrenching/assemblin' on... i was able to get mine NIB for a discount based only on an Ace Hardware franchise closing...otherwise I'd still be happy with my old one

What do you think of the Smokey Mountain?

I have a Masterbilt electric 40" and would love to upgrade someday. It's great for quick smokes but a huge pain in the ass otherwise due to the small chip hopper.

I bought a Spirit last year, at our local Lowes and they charged me 65 bucks to assemble and deliver. The bigger Gensis they do the same services for free.

I got a Weber Spirit at the lowes around the corner from me. I got 15% off and they put it together and delivered it for no charge.
I've only used it a couple times but really like it.

We bought ours at a grill store (American Grill and Hearth) in Nokomis, FL. Delivered and assembled for free plus a free tank of gas for the grill. Better deal than the local big box stores.

I love my Weber. Many of my friends have bought them on phone apps like offer up and let go for $100 or less and buy replacement parts easily and basically have a new weber grill for a fraction of the cost of a new one. They last and don't have the hot spots like others. I would buy locally if you can and support the small local family if possible. No difference that I seen in them.

I have three grills.

Weber gas grill - Genesis Silver I believe. Good for weeknights.
Weber kettle - std charcoal grill. Almost obsolete.
And a Kamado Joe.... That the grand daddy of the them all.

I love it as it will hold a temp for 8+ hours if you load it right. I just love the flavor of charcoal and wood. I have so much faith in it now that that I'll kick it off at 10pm for overnight smokes and that I know will be 8-10 hours. I'll check it once around 4am, but it is usually just fine. You basically are committed to it, but you can leave this smoker after you get used to it for 4-5 hours.

They are identical, but I actually think ACE Hardware is now the preferred retailer for Webers...you can usually negotiate free assembly and delivery. ACE usually has $100 off sales around the Holidays so I'd wait to see if they have such a sale around Memorial Day.

Five years ago you could purchase online at steep discounts from Rainbow Appliance in NJ, but Weber shut that down, such that their current pricing is pretty much fixed across retailers. Rainbow is now out out business because I think the only appliances they actually sold were discounted Webers.

A few years ago my father was looking for a new grill but didn't want to pay full price for a propane Genesis. I was strolling through a Home Depot one day during the Fall and saw that they were trying to clear out all of their grills. They had one stainless steel Genesis marked down nicely to $399, but it was a natural gas model. I negotiated with the store manager and got it down to $309. I bought the thing, hauled it home, assembled it and then went on-line and purchased the Propane orifices from some discount Weber parts store. I switched out the orifices, pressure tested and soap tested the valves and then fired it up. Worked like a charm.

I loaded it up and took it over to my father and said "Merry Christmas in September".

Thanks for all of that, but I needed it right away and didn't have time for any of that -- including deal shopping and having it put together. Hence why I was asking about big box stores.

Thanks everyone, I picked up the four-burner one (not sure what it's called), put it together, and cooked on it that afternoon.

All I have to say is, WOW! I never bought a "good" grill before. "It's a gas burner under some grates -- How different can they be?" I always said. Ignorance was bliss. Now I know what I was missing. The difference is night and day.

Thanks again for the quick info!

that's all fine and good, but what did you cook?

Nothing special. Just a $hit-ton of burgers and brats. The ability of the grill to evenly distribute the heat over the whole cooking surface made it a breeze to cook everything at once - without needing to constantly shuffle the burgers around to cook at the same pace.

In the past, when hosting and grilling, I felt like I was constantly fighting with the task of grilling. Saturday, I was just so easy. I'm still in awe.

I use mine once a week (or more) for the past three years. Still fires up like it was new.

Just purchased a Genesis II E-310 from True Value. Ignitor fired up out of the box with no issue. Still waiting to grill something up on it.

If you're like me and have never grilled on a Weber gas grill before, you're in for a treat.

TIFWIW, but I bought a Weber Summit S-420 in the fall and I'm not very impressed. Much cheaper build quality all around compared to the Genesis S-310 I bought about 6 years ago. Unfortunately, I sold the Genesis with my old house, so I had to get a new grill. I don't expect this grill to last very long. I'm now on my 4th Weber and once this one shits the bed I'm done with them.

Yes (answer to your first question)

I believe I have the same grill as you. I'm not impressed with mine either. Uneven heating and I have to light one burner manually. Paid $1300 for it.
