So I spent the day in pa today as president of Mexico (Manuel labor) cleaning out my moms house. 20 cubic yards on top of a previous 40.

This time though we went thru family stuff. Hard to throw stuff out but you have to. But I found, and kept, some treasures. My grandfathers austro hungarian passport, a pic of my dad from his brief postwar work in coal mines which is never seen before, news clippings from my parents early life and marriage. A clipping which showed the one baseball story of my dad which I ever doubted, was in fact true (an inside the park homer on two bad knees when he one bounced a liner into a locked ticket booth). All of the correspondence, which is thought was lost, from when my relatives in Ukraine tracked us down in the mid 90s when the wall came down (including the list of relatives who spent time in Siberian gulags).

Next time my kids are home, I’m going to show them just how far they’ve come
