RBY interview from Centre Daily Times

You're right, that should put the "squadoosh" on any speculation or rumors of him not coming to the best program in the country...

Can anyone give us the gist since a subscription is needed to read the article? Don't quote exactly as that is a no no. Thanks.
Yeah, I was able to access. Some comments from RBY:
will be new experience, wants to reach his potential, wants high caliber coaching, good friends with Mark Hall, several references to "we" when discussing PSU team, excited for NCAA competition, cold weather and snow will be new but looking forward to the whole experience

I didn't need a subscription to read, but in summary:
  1. Can't wait to receive top level coaching
  2. Mark Hall is his best friend
  3. He's friends with the rest of the team as well
  4. Can't wait to dominate with the rest of his recruiting class

I doubt this will bring HR into reality.

I heard from a very credible source coaches from across the country are flying into State College for a July 1 meeting with all Penn State recruits. Cael is hosting everything at his house.

Now they can even reference BWI as a source.

Smart ass aside. It was a nice read. Of course after watching the NCAA finals this past March, who would not be excited about their wrestling future. If you were a Cael recruit that is.

There will be those who point to Teasdale speaking pubicly about being a Hawkeye only days before decommitting as an example of how such an article does not carry a lot of weight.

That's not a comment on the plans of RBY or any recruit, but just what we might expect to hear in response to those saying the article should put all speculation to rest. It will not.

Why does anyone care about speculation on the HR board if the speculation is deemed to be groundless? I say embrace and enjoy the speculation, and don't let it bother you.

Iowa's new recruiting coordinator?

I didn't bother going there but I imagine they couldn't contain their glee over Cael and DT losing it.
They claim to not want to talk about PSU related discussion, yet are overwhelmingly discussing PSU and Cael on a day when Gilman ran the gauntlet. Surreal really and embarrassing.

HR is becoming much like the Pantherlair in regards to their hate of PSU. Used to enjoy readng their board, but now it is becoming a PSU hate fest.

HR is still a really good board, IMO, though it probably has gotten worse of late. The situation is not helped by a handful of PSU fans who post on HR only to poke them in the eye. Of course, these posters almost always get the visceral response they were hoping for.

But your post has some merit. There is a vocal faction on HR who seem convinced that PSU uses shady recruiting practices and that Cael Sanderson is a friend of the devil. And then there is the crowd who is unwilling to accept any rational argument related to the state of the PSU and Iowa programs, apparently because they just don't want to hear it.

You know a former champion is in a a state of misery when they rejoice in the current champion's failures more so than their own current successes.

I thought you were one of the good posters and then you bring this crap over here? Overwhelmingly? Really? There are a few posts and some overreactions but for the most part and overwhelmingly so there's lots of positivity about Gilman running the gauntlet and very few about DT's meltdown. The way some of you skew things and then run over here to tell everybody is sad and embarrassing.

They have their good threads. But even without eye pokes from any PSUers their own posters can turn just about any thread into a "wail about Cael" thread that instantly disintegrates into a whole list of stupid silly shyt.

What do you mean, "bring this crap over here." This is my home board. I'm not posting on HR today because it is a cesspool at the moment. That's my opinion. I like HR most of the time and don't get into the banter aspect, but HR was over the top the last 12 hours. If you can't see that, not my problem. Not everyone mind you, but a vocal minority took control overnight.

I don't disagree that there are many over there that go above and beyond being idiotic. Seriously, though, do you really think there wouldn't be pages of bashing over here had Gilman lost and reacted the way DT did?

Seriously?!?! This is an RBY thread!

Glad he's headed our way...another tidbit from the article for those who couldn't access it - Roman loves playing x-box and plays it with Hall all the time!

What he said. This forum is just as guilty at derailing a thread into "dumpster fires".

Really, really looking forward to watching RBY in blue and white!!!

It's pretty cool to see recruits coming in this class from Arizona, Oregon, and Cali...life in PA could be a big change from life out on the West Coast! Having multiple guys going through that together should help ease the transition a bit.

I also think these west coast recruits will pay greater dividends down the road. Future recruits, press, PR, expanding the coaching tree and on and on.

It could have been an RBY thread, but the OP chose to add a remark about Iowa/HR. So there you go. Of course, if the OP had not done so, a subsequent poster probably would have.

I'm sure you are right that there are some that would be bashing Gilman, but I posted at the beginning of Gilmans run yesterday that he was now a USA wrestler and I was rooting for him regardless. I meant it. Wouldn't have ripped him either way and am happy for him and like his chances.

While I am not a fan of the bravado style, when anyone steps back from your own team and realize they are all now one team (USA), it changes perspectives (or should).

Some of course just dislike individuals (I heard the negative Dake talk on both boards). I also heard a lot of HR guys backing DT so though I haven't looked today, I don't believe most over there would be bashing him. I saw last night many on that board in agreement with those here, in how the match went and the inequalities.

All this to say, if we (me included) could ignore the outliers and those just trying to stir up the hornets nest, and not lash back (ignore), I believe a lot of it would go away and things would be more pleasant. Now, on to world peace.... ;)

I completely agree with you and fans of both teams have much more in common than they would like to admit. There are also too many generalizations thrown around about either fanbase when it's a select few on both boards. In the end, we are all wrestling fans and it was awesome to see the support for the event on both sites.

Some would. I would not join in. I support whomever is on the world team. No school colors even though I wish they were all Nittany Lions.

Not really true at all. I'll remember this when you come by to visit.

Its unusual, but I had another thought. I get irritated at Gilman and others, and some of those antics, but what I have to remember myself is what I was like back at that age. Pretty embarrassing to do that for me. I had a really bad temper (not at other players, but at myself….and refs) .

Generally I am pretty laid back to the point where I was called Jekyl and Hyde because people just couldn’t believe it was me when they saw how I acted playing sports vs any other time. I rarely if ever had a conflict with anyone aside from sports. It took many, many years for me to overcome. I’m sure there were some (many?) who didn’t like me when they saw me play. No social media in that day, so I was spared.

Why bring it up? There is no one out there perfect, or even close. We might say Zain is a great guy, someone else sees fault in him (face mushing). DT this weekend. We all give our own guys the benefit of the doubt…..why don’t we do that for all? I’m not saying everyone has to like everyone, but use the same standards no matter where the person is from and what his personality is.

Fact is, I’ve seen person after person say how they like Gilman, so I have to look past the little I can see, and give him the benefit of the doubt. I get that you might think he is disrespectful, etc, but give him time to grow up and mature. I would have been crucified here (and rightly so) if I were in his place. :) Whatever happens with Jordan Oliver, I hope people will remember to put yourself in his place before you judge, condemn him, and publicly shred him.

IF he is guilty of something and is sorry, forgiveness is in order. Not saying you have to like what he did, but that is a different thing. Sorry, its Sunday so I heard a sermon this morning.

My opinion is my opinion. Life is short my friend to worry about it. Az, Turk, and Minne say things on HR that aren't what they would post here. Does that make them bad people? No it doesn't. You'll live. I'm almost sure of it.

I didn't bother going there but I imagine they couldn't contain their glee over Cael and DT losing it.
They are actually whining that it's not being covered enough by FLO. Crying that PSU guys get a pass while their team is highly scrutinized when they do or say boneheaded things.

Btw, did anyone actually see Cael throwing chairs? The HR folks assure it happened but I haven't seen it in any video that I saw.

Alex Steen reported on TOM (behind paywall) the following: "Sanderson was visibly angry and placed his folding chair on the stage in protest." He also noted that "by wrestling standards their protests were relatively mild" but that it was out of character. DT kicked the challenge brick, and I'm guessing both he and Cael had words for the referee.

I imagine they'll both apologize at some point but--and I'll say this as objectively as I can given my personal bias--they deserved to be pissed off. After the nonsense step-out point making it 5-3 Cox was on rollerskates going backwards and didn't hear another peep from the ref, compounded by there being so much sweat on the mat that it was impossible for DT to do anything except push forward.

I don't know whether Cael was yelling about the mat conditions but there was one point where Cox slid backwards maybe 10 feet on his knees. I get that Cox can't control his sweat and it's just going to happen again, but you have to have that toweled off because it was a joke. It's tough enough to take down Cox but if you're essentially mud wrestling, there's nothing to grab onto.

And with so much riding on that match, the ref should have been mindful at least how it looked. The sport needs him to take his job as seriously as the guys who he's between on the mat. And that didn't happen. There's a reason you skin check the wrestlers before each period and that reason doesn't cease being valid when the mat is ankle deep in sweat. Indeed, just the opposite.

No he did not throw any chairs....He is not a nut like some Coaches....
