Real talk...are MFF an issue now and is this the beginning of big problem down the road

What if they stop announcing allocations before the conference tournaments?

That might help some and appears to have no appreciable down side (at least that I'm aware of).

That said, I still have difficulty getting worked up about the "epidemic" of MFFs at conference tournaments.

Guessing that case by case it wouldn't have made much of a difference. Nolf, Kemerer, Suriano were all getting in regardless. Solomon also got an at large -- though he got a concussion at ACCs, so his MFFs weren't strategic.

I understand the injury thing...I really do, but when our conference championships arent AS important and march is the ONLY thing, seems we could be really watering things down.

thoughts?

Maybe I'm missing something but, if memory serves, Cael has always
set winning the National Championship as his team's primary annual goal.

So if what you say is true, I guess you could call him a life member of the "water-down movement".

Count everything and yes injuries do happen, but if you miss competitive opportunities there should be some sort of negative math applied.

I don't necessarily disagree but how would this apply to two guys battling for a spot, like Shak and Cassar this year? Both 'missed' competitive opportunities.....

It won’t matter for the elite wrestlers. Seed Nolf first or sixth, he is going to NCAAs where he knows he is the best wrestler there. If the coaches think it is smart to sit him bc of an injury, they will still sit him. FRL talked like pulling a guy with documented injuries is the same as missing a dual for a wedding. A lot of talk about a non-issue. Nolf, Suriano and Kem all had injuries prior.

The same as though you missed it for different reasons.
Every competition should have seeding points to be earned. If a competitor does not compete those points are lost.
Seeding isn't ever going to be perfect nor necessarily easy.

I like what manatree said about not announcing allocations until after the conference tournament.

Not sure what the answer is but I like how the high school post season goes. Using AAA as an example, ( and I’m a WPIAL guy ) you have to finish top 5 in your section to advance to WPIALs, then top 4 in WPIALs to advance to states. Doesn’t matter if you’re a returning section, wpial, or state champ, if you’re not in the top 4, you don’t go. Years ago 2003 I believe, they only took the top 3 from the wpial to states. Mark McKnight (psu alum) and Drew Headlee (returning state champ) wrestled for 3rd. McKnight won leaving the defending state champ at home. McKnight went on to win states that year. This is all if memory serves me right.
