First off I think we can still make it back to the CFP but we aren’t a team built for that yet. Those are just the facts. We aren’t close to the elite teams in the trenches. That is a killer in a game like this.
From second quarter on Ohio State owned the LOS, I never felt comfortable in the second half. Losing RB97 was a big loss because those kids had a tough time filling in for him.
We were careful with offensive playcalling a lot of the night, seemed McSorely had very little time to make any decisions and he played a great game under the circumstances. He was great getting himself out of trouble and extending plays. He also picked some great times to run out of the pocket and get yards. He got rid of the ball quickly most times.
When we lost Bates it was the killer blow. They were meeting Barkley and McSorely 5 yards deep. There was little time to throw or make decisions. Perfect conditions for a turnover.
Ohio State made a million mistakes, penalties and had some questionable coaching decisions of their own. That is why we were able to have a chance. Give our offense credit, we scored 38 points being pushed around against a team with elite talent, home field and a bye week.
We didn’t play clean either and gives me reason to be optimistic. We just need to be better at the line of scrimmage. Ohio State runs the same type of offense we do and you can see what a great front does for your running game and protection. Ohio State has elite talent on defensive line, we certainly aren’t there.
