Once again, he didn’t shut the door on leaving PSU.
Why would Barron care? He's retiring before next season starts.Paul Zeise: James Franklin doesn’t have as much leverage at Penn State as he thinks
If I were Penn State President Eric Barron, I would have a very short, simple and one-sided conversation with Nittany Lions head football coach James Franklin...www.post-gazette.com
He also said we’re going on the road to the ‘big house’. That may be one way to avoid losing to Ohio State Saturday.I noticed his quip about how he's focused entirely on Illinois.
I sure hope not.

Really…pressure must be building. He also said we’re going on the road to the ‘big house’. That may be one way to avoid losing to Ohio State Saturday.
He should still be focused on Ball State!!!I noticed his quip about how he's focused entirely on Illinois.
I sure hope not.
Wondered the same.Clifford apparently underwent a full body transplant since the end of the ILL game
That's the post of the month. 🍻Clifford apparently underwent a full body transplant since the end of the ILL game
If Clifford is indeed 100 percent, it would go a long way toward allowing the Nittany Lions' offense to perform and execute in a way that it simply couldn't last Saturday with Clifford not being able to use his feet as a weapon.
"I think that's a big part of Sean and what his game is, his ability to extend plays, his ability to keep the defense honest and be able to make a play throughout the game where he picks up the first down with his legs," Franklin said. "He was limited, obviously, in what he could do, and we tried to limit it as much as we could as well."

That is because he loses leverage....so does losing 5 of your last 7 games following a year where you went 4-5.Once again, he didn’t shut the door on leaving PSU.
Didn't Franklin explicitly say that they didn't alter the plays to restrict Clifford from running in his Illinois postgame interview?
And, although as fans that response is terrible and leaves a lot to the imagination, unless he 100% plans to be at PSU for the rest of his career (and I wouldn't expect any coach to know that), it's the best way to respond to the question. He's going to continue to get that question every year. If he unequivocally shoots down the rumors every time, then if and when the time comes that he doesn't directly shoot them down, everyone will know he's gone. From his perspective, better to keep it vague like he's doing. Not sure why anyone would expect that to change honestly. He's been asked the question probably 7-10x over the past few years. It's the same every time.
He keeps winning 5-6-7 games his name will stop coming up real quick for those other jobs. And, although as fans that response is terrible and leaves a lot to the imagination, unless he 100% plans to be at PSU for the rest of his career (and I wouldn't expect any coach to know that), it's the best way to respond to the question. Did anyone hear Tomlin’s comment on USC rumor? Basically slammed the door shut and doesn’t want to be questioned on it again. Direct communication goes a long way. IMHO CJF needs to quit playing games and address the question straight on. I’m tired of the vague responses.
Well said and agree except the part about not being able to pick up a cold at PSU. 😉🤣I for one hope he stays. He had a great recruiting class and on paper that helps become better. He also does a good job keeping the players out of trouble off the field and the classroom. How hard that must be.......I could barely pick up a cold in college, can you imagine how much fun it could be to be the big man on campus? I would have needed a bailbondsman for my time there.
That said, James looked unenthused at the press conference to say the least. If he goes , I'm not sure there is a hire out there that would excite me to remain interested in watching CF next season. I'd like to be excited but I doubt I could . It's like he didn't finish the job.
Makes sense. All of our focus was on Iowa before the Illinois game.Illinois is in deep shit this week. All our focus is on them!!

I went to view the OSU Ozone forum to see what they were saying and they're not believing any of what James is peddling. We always knew Franklin had a slimey side to him but today...
"We expect to have a 100 percent Sean Clifford this weekend," Franklin said.
Franklin is a liar. To me, this is worse than losing to Illinois.
I find that hard to believe, Clifford was hurting and just not right against Illinois. Like I've said many times, he's - by far - the MVP of the B1G and has the heart of a lion"We expect to have a 100 percent Sean Clifford this weekend," Franklin said.
No. He implied the opposite.Didn't Franklin explicitly say that they didn't alter the plays to restrict Clifford from running in his Illinois postgame interview?
There is no way Clifford will be 100%. Not after the way he was beat up in the Illinois game. He never should have started it played much against Illinois. It was obvious he was not well.Clifford apparently underwent a full body transplant since the end of the ILL game
Why would he tell OSU that Clifford is anything but 100%? This is just gamesmanship, I doubt anyone actually believes Clifford is suddenly fully recovered after what we saw on Saturday. We always knew Franklin had a slimey side to him but today...
