Recapping Tuesday's Press Conference

Why would he tell OSU that Clifford is anything but 100%? This is just gamesmanship, I doubt anyone actually believes Clifford is suddenly fully recovered after what we saw on Saturday.
Please, just stop. He is a liar that has a well established reputation for playing unhealthy quarterbacks. This is just the latest example. Might cost us a key recruit.

Nah, I don't think so.

I think others are right -- he's just keeping OSU guessing. Nobody honestly thinks Clifford will be 100%, but by suggesting it, perhaps OSU will need to gameplan for the full complement of run and pass plays.

I wouldn't read too much into it.

Now, if Clifford is really hurt and CJF rolls him out there to get pounded anyway -- jeopardizing more serious injury -- then we have a real problem.

His post is BS. These staffs have Doctors and Clifford isn’t an idiot. The loss sucked but no need to make up BS either. You cannot keep competitors off the field.

There is no way Clifford will be 100%. Not after the way he was beat up in the Illinois game. He never should have started it played much against Illinois. It was obvious he was not well.
But if Franklin didn’t start/play him, these geniuses on this board would be yelling about how much of a pvssy SC is and how CJF is fvcking up by playing the kid who couldn’t get it done against Iowa.

The anti-JF contingent gripe regardless. It's what they do.

Franklins gone, you can just tell. Just was totally uninterested in that PC just as you could tell during the entire Ill game that he was somewhere else. Just man up and say it already.

Once again, he didn’t shut the door on leaving PSU.
I want a coach who views PSU as a destination job, not a stepping stone.

I can only think of two reasons why Franklin doesn't say he's not interested in USC. One is that he IS interested. The other is that he doesn't think PSU is committed to him.

It has the appearance of this .......

I'm not a doctor but it seems unlikely that Clifford was hurting so bad 3 days ago but he's expected to be 100% 4 days from now.

And why would Franklin say we needed the backups given Clifford's condition if he was expected to be 100%.

If CJF has one foot out the door, maybe Rhule will be the guy. It would surely be a destination job for him.

He has been here eight years. Hardly a stepping stone.

I don't want Franklin to leave, but his act is peevish and bordering on ridiculous considering he just a lost, on homecoming, to a 2-5 team. I can see he is well versed in double-speak and platitudes and committees(his weak little deferrals to his "leadership committee" ) these days. All tools employed by politicians and media figures not wanting accountability. I like Franklin, I have mostly respected Franklin minus a few very thin skinned outbursts(Blaming the thunderstorm in a loss to MSU in 2017, almost going after a PSU fan losing to OSU in 2018, and the "elite speech" come to mind), but I really hope I don't end up despising him over the next 4 or 5 weeks and I fear we are on that course. I get it, he doesn't want to show his hand, especially considering that if this season predictably goes down the toilet, he might not have anywhere to go, but I think he can make an affirmative statement of sorts. "I'd really like to continue to be the head football coach at PSU and I hope they feel that way." Leaves plenty of room for that to change at season's end. Media drips and double-speak are making it feel like we are being patronized. And before anyone says "well we are just dumb fans, it shouldn't matter what we think," you ever seen a coach totally lose a fanbase? How does that work out for administrators and the coach?

I agree with what his statement could be and then let his agent do all the talking. This is if he is interested and he is so honest with recruits would t we be seeing a mass exodus by now?

He is going to continue to tell the team and the recruits that he is staying ... right up until the moment he tells them he is leaving. He has no choice but to continue to lie to them right up to the last minute. Undoubtedly, he is struggling with this (as I think we all would), but he really has no choice, unless he resigns mid season and I don't think that will happen.

For those of you that don't think he would do this, I refer you to the speech that BOB gave to Hack, Brenneman, and that class in order to get them to stick with their commitments to PSU.

I dont think it has spread to his team or recruits, he starts with his agent, but as this stuff leaks....yeah, it will flow to the team and recruits.

This statement is incorrect.

Unless we only seek "PSU men" as candidates there's always a flight risk for top coaches because there are schools out there with a lot to offer and that are more willing to open up the checkbook than PSU. I have no interest in limiting the field only to candidates that we think will stay for 20 years. Just get the best coach you can. Of course I'm also hoping Franklin doesn't leave so there's that.

This says Franklin is the 9th highest paid in the country and highest in the BiG.

With all respect, I know it’s Ohio State but they aren’t THAT dumb. ;).

This isn’t high school football. The OSU coaches have seen Clifford play and are well aware he’s hurt. No one is being fooled to make them alter any game plan.

If you're talking PSU men who do we list and do Tyler Bowen or Yurcich count? Seider or Terry Smith?

If he unequivocally shoots down the rumors every time, then if and when the time comes that he doesn't directly shoot them down, everyone will know he's gone. From his perspective, better to keep it vague like he's doing.
Signs of a politician. Yes?

He keeps winning 5-6-7 games his name will stop coming up real quick for those other jobs.
$hit, he keeps mismanaging the depth chart the way he does he won't land another HC gig. There's no excuse for the QB and DLine situation in this day and age of player free agency. None!

He genuinely seemed insulted and rightfully so. You don't leave a top two/three NFL HC job for *any* college football job. It doesn't exist.
You had me there until the "a top two/three NFL HC jobs." Maybe when waxing nostalgic over the number of SB wins, but not much more. And I'm a Stillers fan.

"We expect to have a 100 percent Sean Clifford this weekend," Franklin said.

Franklin is a liar. To me, this is worse than losing to Illinois.
Newsflash: Franklin is the consummate salesman.

Name three better jobs. Only Belechik and Peyton have longer tenures. I’d say Green Bay, New England, and maybe Dallas are in the same league;
Pittsburgh as an organization is top tier.
