Other than KJ Hamler and Pat F I think it's fair to say the receiving core has been a big disappointment. There's a reason Polk has not played much up until this season. He catches some balls but will also drop a fair share of balls. He dropped a brutal ball Saturday that he would have scored on as the OSU corner fell down on the play. JJ has been extremely disappointing. I'm shocked at some of his drops. I was hoping his big one-handed catch would spark him and it did for a bit during the game, but the drops came back quickly.
No doubt we lost a couple of studs the past two years. Perhaps the loss of Gattis has been a big factor. However, I'm just wondering if Daniel George and Jahan Dotson would have been equal to or better options at this point. Dotson got rave reviews and George is a physical beast and looked good in mop-up duty.
I get it. I'm not in practice and I trust our coaches (not sure about Cornley yet) but I'm going to question them anyway. Seems like we had some really good options in the bullpen.
