Recommendations for luxury hotel in Punta Cana

30th anniversary so great room beach pool. You get the picture...
Honeymooned at the Occidental Grand Flamigo Resort in Puna Cana was awesome.. All inclusive, 5 eateries of different specialties, beach was incredible, nice rooms, lazy river, swim up bars. Big European hang out, might see a little more than you want in some cases. Owned at the time by Spaniards.

I just got back from The Hard Rock Resort. Its very nice, its "all inclusive", including the booze. It is a problem getting ocean front because most of the rooms are off the ocean. But it is a nice facility and done well. They have a DJ out by the main pool, but others are more private. They also have a great golf course. What they do is give you x number of "resort credits" based on your stay and room. My wife spent a lot of time at the spa, got two 80 minute massages. We are not big night life people so had some left over, my wife book me to have these fish eat the dead skin off of my feet at the spa. Never heard of it. She wanted to try it but was too scared. Interesting experience. Here is a youtube of some guy getting it done in Singapore.

overall, i'd say it was an 8.5 on the ten scale. I don't like giant places and the meat market feel. Having said that, the rooms were incredible (has the bed and a step down to a jacuzzi tub at the foot of the bed). Nice room. Food was made to order for dinner, as opposed to being a buffet. Breakfast was a buffet. Nephew got a kick out of ordering room service every night at midnight.

I just stayed at the Iberostar Bravo and would rate it a 6. Spoke to some other guest and they said the Iberostar Grand was very nice. My favorite so far has been the Majestic Elegance Suites which I would give an 8 or 9.

I'd look to Bermuda or perhaps USVI. Also, Roatan is a pretty cool place to visit. DR's beaches weren't my favorite.

why
it's your 30th why Punta Cana?
I would assume cost factors in, but I sorta agree with this.
If I wanted luxury, not sure Punta Cana would be on the list.
That said, I spent a week at Breathless in Punta Cana in March.
Would not recommend. Food is just ok, drinks are well, barely ok I guess.
Rooms leave a lot to be desired, and this resort is only a couple years old.

I would like recs for luxury AI's though. For me, luxury includes (off the top of my head:
- room that isn't musty
- really good food, not Gordon's meets the high school cafeteria (which is what my expectation level is set at for most AI's)
- quality bedding and towels
- beach chairs that aren't falling apart
- top shelf alcohol

I stayed at Excellence a couple years ago. Very nice, plenty of food options, great service. In room bar was stocked like ive never seen, although drinks are free everywhere anyway. Lot of excursions(extra) available. The only thing I could see as a negative, is the resort is pretty high up on the coast, so you are closer to the Atlantic. No calm lagoon there, more surf.

Respectfully, it was my 30th I'd look elsewhere. You need an AK-47 to get around anywhere off the immediate resorts. It is less expensive than many other options, but there is a reason for it.

Paradiso fits your description. Was just there. Great property.
