Lyons hit one of the tools used by all the coaching staffs at PSU, right on the head.
It is not unusual to see recruits with a student host (see below) at a sporting event. I've personally seen recruits at Women's Volleyball matches, and Football games. Sometimes it gets posted here (by others), sometimes not.
The rules for Official Visits, to keep the playing field level, are in the Rulebook. Here's a few pertinent ones;
-- A recruit may only take 1 Official Visit to a specific school
-- A recruit may take as many Unofficial Visits as they like
-- A recruit may only take 5 total Official Visits
-- First day Official Visits are allowed is the 1st day of High School classes, Senior year
-- Recruit must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center prior to any Official Visits
-- An Official Visit is limited to 48 hours
-- Complimentary admission to home athletic events is allowed
-- Student Host(s) are allowed
The idea (for Wrestling) of spending time with a current wrestler (Student Host), and watching a PSU Football game, Women's Volleyball match, etc. is a huge benefit, recruiting-wise. Seeing our facilities, and time with the coaches is big too...but imo hearing about the wrestling culture, the atmosphere in the room, some of the intangibles, FROM A WRESTLER, is invaluable.
Remember, there's not a huge window between the start of classes, senior year, and the first opportunity to sign an NLI (Early Signing is one week, starting Nov. 8), so lots of visits at all campuses around the country will be happening between now and Nov. 5. November 6th starts a short Dead Period, when no contact is allowed.
