I was able to speak with a few contacts this evening regarding Alexandria, Va., safety Litchfield Ajavon. He visited Penn State earlier today. It was his first time on campus.
From what I was told, PSU made a very good impression today. Ajavon made the trip with his father, as well as his coach and a teammate, 2020 CB Elijah Gaines.
Academics are important here. That's a big reason why many have been leaning towards Michigan and Notre Dame. Keep that in mind. I think that could help PSU moving forward.
However, another thing to keep an eye on is his timeline. As I've noted before, PSU is primarily focused on JaQuan Brisker and Lewis Cine. Those two sit at the top of PSU's big board. Brisker and Cine's timelines are still unclear and Ajavon could very well wrap up his recruitment later this spring or in the summer. So, that could have an impact. I know PSU really wants to get Brisker down for an unofficial visit this spring, then an official visit in June. With Cine, he says he's going to return this spring, but nothing is set at the moment. He's also down in Texas now, so that visit became about 3x more expensive for his parents.
As for Ajavon, I'm not ready to say that PSU is on Michigan and Notre Dame's level after his first visit, but I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to return to PSU later for the Blue-White Game. I was told he was impressed with campus and the staff, so keep an eye on him later this spring.
Ajavon is on his way to Pitt for a visit tomorrow. I'll try to reach out to him Tuesday evening to learn more of what he thought of PSU.
