Football REPORT: Oregon, Washington to Join the Big Ten

Why? With only four slots (for now), and what? 132 teams? You could easily have two 13-0 teams, two 12-1 teams, and a 12-0 ND. Supply and demand. An 11-1 team is much more likely to get the 4th slot than the first.
Because it should never be "4" teams. Ever. The fact that people like the current set up and think that with 132 teams we don't need at least a 16 team playoff is why you're statement is insane. If you're 11-1 you should be safely a part of a playoff in all sports. Supply and demand doesn't make sense here.

The entire point is that playoff expansion (ideally to 24 or 32) is desperately needed unless the SEC/Big Ten form their own league--then 8-12 will work.

Again, if a team is squeaking in with 1 loss then the format is wrong.

the format is wrong.

It's always been wrong to a certain degree.

It took Penn State 13 years under Paterno to get invited to the unofficial title game / the bowl invite vs the other top team according to the polls. Go back and look at certain seasons and you would kill for a playoff.

Nah. Depends on the size of the playoff.

The first year of our state championships, there were four divisions and only TWO teams made it per division. You could be undefeated, but if your SOS was too low, you were out of luck.

Small playoff emphasizes the regular season. A large playoff emphasizes the post season. Both are valid.

Correct...for at least 50 years the format has been complete trash yet some want to hold onto it pretending tradition outweighs how flawed it is.

We agree on MLB. they play 162 games not 12 and there's not 120+ teams. That's a horrible comp. College football is fixing what's been wrong for decades.

To think that at one point in time the champion was voted on before the bowls...

We have championships claimed by teams who lost their bowl that season. 🤔

There is no right or wrong. It’s all a matter of opinion. I am of the opinion that I would rather have an expanded conference championship tournament, ideally at four, and a smaller national playoff system of four to a maximum of eight. Anything more in my opinion is just diluted.
