Watched a bit of game tape.

Here is the setup:

*1st and 10 from the PS 41. 2ND Quarter, immediately after the Apke interception

Mahon locks up with Kam Carter and Carter rubs off and glides by Mahon; Carter tackles 26 for a 3 yard loss. Man blocking scheme and Mahon lost on that play.

*2nd and 13 from the PS 38 – McSorley QB draw for 4 yards.

*3rd and 8 from the PS 43 – 3 Wide set with Gesicki in the bunch formation. McGovern, Mahon, and Gonzalez hold up the interior well, Wright kicks his man out far and does OK; Bates gets turnstiled by the former Rivals 4 star Dewayne Hendrix. 7 yard loss.

*4th and 15 – Punt

Thoughts – Both Carter and Hendrix were Rivals 4 star players. So, Pitt has some good defensive linemen that are cast-offs. Carter held UM, MSU and Neb offers. Hendrix was a Tennessee commit at one time and once had FLA, OSU, and Neb offers.

Bates and Mahon were both Rivals 4 star players. In this once series, PS’s 4 star linemen were schooled by Pitt’s 4 star linemen. It happens.

This was PS’s worst offensive possession of the games, giving up a sack, a TFL, and a 4 yard gain.

It was a bad series indeed. That sack that Bates gave up, was our first and only sack allowed so far this season. We are on a pace to give up a total of 6 sacks for the season, which would be one more sack than the greatest offensive line in Penn State history gave up in 1994. Now, obviously we won't limit it to 6 total sacks for the season, but I will take the one sack for this year so far, over the 10 sacks in one game just two seasons ago. Let's get better this week vs Ga. State, lots of room for improvement, one game at a time baby!

Ryan Bates had a pretty rough game.

Kam Carter? Didn't he get dismissed from Penn State a few years ago? Nice to see him have a bit of glory I guess...

Yeah Barkley and Carter are friends from when Carter was on the PSU squad. Barkley was quoted somewhere saying how funny it was to have Carter tackling him for a loss and in his face that first series. He's a good player but reportedly had trouble passing drug tests at PSU.

McGovern cleaned up his snapping from week one I noticed.

Yep. And many of us knew that would happen. In the same way, watch Ryan get better and better now, from here on in. These guys have a GREAT line coach, and that matters.

I think Nelson gets more reps this week also. He quietly played a very good game yesterday, with the limited snaps he got.
