Richard Perry in bad shape.

Sounds like an absolutely terrible....accident? He was impaled through the eye causing brain damage? Whatever the cause, thoughts and prayers for Mr Perry and his family, I can't imagine how difficult this must be for them.

That's awful. I always liked watching him wrestle. First time I really noticed him was at the Bill Farrell in 2015 where he gave Ed Ruth a much tougher time than most people expected. Ridiculously strong.

Sad news. We sat next to his wife two years ago at the finals of US Open vs DT. Watching how nervous she was made me reappreciate the intensity of wrestling at all levels. Hope the best for his family.

Thoughts and prayers for the family and friends. Praying for a speedy and full recovery.

Gina posted a public update on Richard a little while ago on the GoFundMe site.

Good news: he was standing with assistance earlier today, he is able to hear and understand what is being said to him and even smiled at one point.
Not good news: He has a bone fragment in his brain that needs to be removed next week, he has a pool of blood in his brain that is causing paralysis, but doctors expect that to dissipate over time.

Finally, the swelling has gone down enough in his brain that they were going to do an MRI to see what is going on with brain function.

Update I saw from 34 and counting:

Update from Gina!!! (his wife)

“Thank you all so much for the prayers! God is certainly hearing them and acting on them. This morning we walked in on Rich standing with assistance. Praise God that is just leaps and bounds better than yesterday! Not only that, but he even cracked a smile for us as he was standing in true Rich fashion. He is able to hear us and acknowledges our questions and what we are saying to him. Honestly, at this point I could not be more excited about his progress and it’s all because of God’s mercy, grace, and love—your prayers are moving mountains! Please keep them coming. While this will be a long road to recovery, it will be one to a FULL RECOVERY! I am claiming that in the name of Jesus!

We are waiting on an exact date for next week’s surgery to remove the bone fragment from the front part of his brain. We need prayers that that surgery goes smoothly and as planned. Please pray that God guides the hands of the surgical team and that all goes according to plan... or even better.

The swelling is going down and it seems that this is all a waiting game for now, until Rich has surgery. The pool of blood on the back right side of his brain is causing paralysis on the left side of his body. Though it will take time, we’ve been told the bruising will heal and the paralysis will dissipate. We are believing that he WILL regain functionality.

He is now stable enough to get an MRI this afternoon to learn more about what’s going on as far as brain function.

I just noticed that Flo donated $1,000 to Richard. A nice generous offer, good job Smalls.

The entire wrestling community kept on donating and and resulted in pushing the goal up multiple times.

I wish Mr. Perry and family the best.

The latest update from the GoFundMe:
‘Rich continues to battle the fever. The surgery is cancelled due to the fever. He is showing improvement—right eye remains open and left eye openinning 2 or 3 times on his own. He’s slightly confused but still responsive. Great hand control on his right side. Has about 20 mins of interaction (not a lot of talking but more than what the doctors expected). He’s still fighting and needs to continue to do so but has already made more progress than expected.

We truly appreciate the prayers specific requests include: prayers to get rid of the fever, maintain a good blood pressure and prevent blood clots while continuing to work on the healing of his eye and the reduction of swelling.

My Faith in God and His promises is unwavering. I believe in this healing for Rich and if the healing does not come, then that’s God’s will and I know He will carry us through whatever His plan is for our family. ’

The donations have been amazing. I hope all of that doesn't have to go to medical bills and some of it can be used to help the family get back on their feet as he continues to rehab

Now this is a good one to see!

It's none of my business, but I'm still so curious what the hay happened....
He looks pretty good, relatively speaking. You can tell he's had some work done but how could he not--he's kind of lucky to be alive. I wish him the best. Probably no better sport than wrestling to condition you to fight through lengthy, tedious rehab.

He looked great... A great moment as well..

While the wrestling at the Classic was quite entertaining, I though that Perry walking out to the center of the floor was the most memorable part of the Classic.

Later in the event, I happened to walk past Brandon Slay -- the head of the Penn RTC, and the guy that MCed the Perry event at the Classic. I complimented him on the great job he did speaking about Perry while introducing him.

...watching Richard make his way out on the mat, it was quite apparent that here was a young man with an indomitable spirit...
