Rider (1 seed of MAAC) just lost in the MAAC quarterfinals to 9 seed Saint Peter's.
Wonder if this means Rider doesn't get in the tournament?

It sure doesn’t help... I can’t imagine the MAAC conference getting that many seedsRider (1 seed of MAAC) just lost in the MAAC quarterfinals to 9 seed Saint Peter's.

That’s why it’s a joke that the winner of the tournament gets an automatic bid to the dance, especially in these smaller conferences. Not sure if anyone actually wants to win the MAAC...thru 3 quarterfinals, the 1, 2, and 3 seeds have fallen. Iona would make an interesting 15 seed.
I probably wouldn't be watching the MAAC tourney if the winner didn't get a bid. It's the beauty of March Madness. That’s why it’s a joke that the winner of the tournament gets an automatic bid to the dance, especially in these smaller conferences.
I don’t think you will have many people supporting your position here. That’s why it’s a joke that the winner of the tournament gets an automatic bid to the dance, especially in these smaller conferences.
I no longer watch the tournament, but one of the reasons it's such an enormous success is the inclusion of small conference schools. They make the tournament a truly national event and a lot of those people who buy lottery tickets every week hoping for a personal miracle will tune in to see Rider play Virginia hoping to see a basketball miracle. It's the NCAA tournament, not the Power 5 tournament. Exclusivity would diminish the product, and the NCAA knows it.That’s why it’s a joke that the winner of the tournament gets an automatic bid to the dance, especially in these smaller conferences.
I’m not advocating excluding the small conference schools from the tournament, I just think they should be represented by the best team over the course of the season, not by a team that happens to get hot on the tournament. Unfortunately, we won’t get to see Rider play Virginia because, although Rider was the best team in the MAAC over the course of the season, they lost in their tournament and won’t even make the dance.I no longer watch the tournament, but one of the reasons it's such an enormous success is the inclusion of small conference schools. That's a fair point, but that would dimish the interest in, and value of, conference tournaments. Maybe they just need to expand the number of play in teams.I’m not advocating excluding the small conference schools from the tournament, I just think they should be represented by the best team over the course of the season, not by a team that happens to get hot on the tournament.
