The name of the Indian tribe in F-troop, the Hekawi, comes from the longstanding myth that Native Americans are the lost tribe of Israel. Most of the Hekawi were played by Yiddish comedians, and the tribal name comes from a gag around them constantly being lost and saying "Where the heck are we?" which is misinterpreted as "We're the Hekawi."

The script for the original pilot episode had the tribal name as "Fugawi" which was eventually caught by the censors and re-written as "Hekawi."

Hysterical in Mama’s Family. That was one funny show.

The recurring sketch on the Carol Burnett Show was certified-funny...

the TV series however (sans Eunice and Ed) was a tire fire... someone network genius thought it was Mama who made that sketch work... it was actually Eunice and Ed (Carol Burnett and Harvey Korman) that shined IMHO

Ken was perfect for F-Troop, which is one of my favorite all time shows.
I especially enjoyed Chief Wild Eagle's nonsensical words of wisdom like "He who plants crop of rhubarb will lose moccasins in light of full moon".
Once Wild Eagle said "When field mouse see shadow/ Time to string beads". When asked what it meant, the Chief said "Not know. Nobody ever asked before.":)
Rest in Peace Ken.

He was also on Mayberry RFD, which was a spin off of The Andy Griffith Show.

F Troop was one of my all time favorites. RIP Ken. Thanks for the laughs.

There's a great story about a contest between Forrest Tucker and Milton Berle. I think just the punchline alone tells the tale -- Jackie Gleason jumps up on a chair and says "Hey Miltie, just show enough to win."
