Other programs are getting recruits/transfers via NIL bags of enormous sizes. We pay but guaranteed we are not the high bidders. PSU is the benchmark. Everyone else needs to step up. There are a lot of programs. Step up.

Penn State definitely has NIL funding, but most of their transfers in the NIL era were not a matter of money but rather guys going “they win absolutely everything and I, too, would like to win absolutely everything.”

The Internet buzzed this week with talk that returning NCAA finalist Rocco Welsh might be leaving Ohio State. Welsh and coach Tom Ryan squashed the rumors.

Agree. Tom Ryan butchered that situation and that’s true regardless of where welsh goes.
Yeah, Rocco is nearly impossible to score on. Almost certain to be an upgrade over Ryder, but it’s a tough one. I’m not even a huge Ryder guy with regard to upside, but I know how well liked he is on the team.
Welsh apparently is coming. I guarantee he hasn't been promised a spot. Mirasola, Ryder or Welsh, best wrestler goes. Each one believes he is the man.
Interesting development that I don't totally believe but wanted to pass on. There is a rumor going around and maybe dice can confirm/deny/elaborate. Levi could be on the move, which could be why Welsh is coming. Don't shoot the messenger, and again, just what I've heard/read from more than one person. I'll believe it when I see it.
It's not really about PSU, per se, but one has to wonder how many schools are going to continue to fund wrestling if they aren't very competitive because they don't have the resources.
I certainly don't blame anyone at the top schools for using whatever resources they have to remain at the top, but at some point, if the NCAA finals essentially turn into a dual meet between PSU/OSU it's not going to do a lot to grow the sport.
