Heart of America, Archbold, OH
I'm in Columbus with my son's We The People competition. Great experience for high school kids.
One of the three panelist for my son's group was Cliff Hite. Senator Hite used to be the head football coach in Bryan, OH, then moved on to Findlay, OH where he was Roethlisberger's coach.
He joked about not liking Archbold as we were in the same league. Then he cracked a joke that most in the room didn't get; that he coached Ben, "and there's another story behind that."
Guessing he was referring to his son starting over Roethlisberger during BR's junior year.
Oh, well. Thought I'd share while we wait for the afternoon session.

cool thanks!

Back in the day, I took one of my kids back to school at Xavier (Cincinnati). Standing out by my minivan wearing something Steelers, I was approached by another dad who told me that he was from the Findlay area and that as a Steelers fan that I was going to be real happy about the kid that they drafted from Miami OH.

He also said that the fact that he didn't play QB until the head coach's son graduated kept Ben from getting a more "high profile" school (I read that as tO$U) football scholarship.

I know someone who went to Findlay HS and was on the team with BR. BR apparently was used primarily as a wideout as a junior, and was just was not as good as the starting QB that year according to the person I know. Like a lot of HS players, one year can make a difference. He was tall and skinny in HS, and it was his physical build that made big time Div. I coaches not give him as high of a rating compared to some of the other more physical specimens that were being recruited at the time.
