what the hell is with so many guys in walking boots shrouded in secrecy. Sounds like Simmons, Stevens and Shorter all out indefinitely with nothing from El Capitan. Now to find out Givens is suspended on top of losing Bucholz and Brown to retirement. Then add Bowen being gone, then back, then gone again. Then add Zembiec hanging them up. Then add losing Miner and Nana to heart ailments. Suddenly I feel like our roster got decimated and we don’t even realize it because El Capitan is like the Kremlin with this stuff.

That thing at right tackle needs to end. 77 needs to be the guy there. Also, at some point 74 needs to figure it out, or they need to get someone else in there.

I applaud you for at least knowing how to spell HIPAA, but I respectfully disagree with your overly broad definition of same. Revealing the nature of a player’s injury is not truly a HIPAA violation (unless the player wishes to keep it private, which I very much doubt most do).
If a player doesn't want to keep it private, then they should just reveal it themselves. They have plenty of outlets to do so. The fact the Franklin chooses not to reveal this type of information does not equate to PSU football being the Kremlin.
the significant impacts today were on the defense:
- Retirements of Brown and Bucholtz took to big physical DEs out of the lineup which hurt the defense against the run. also Bucholtz was great at applying pressure.
- following losing to big experienced DEs we then lose Simmons at the same spot.
- This puts us with one real set of DEs - YGM and Miller. no real backups with any physicality.
- Next, Bowen decides to give up his football career and just get a degree. nothing wrong with that, but he was going to be the MLB. nobody in that position could move like him. another big loss.
- Then we lose Givens to unknown reasons, and who is our best DT. he makes things happen and routinely puts pressure on QB.
On the OFF it would have been good to have Tommy, and I dont think he was even on the sideline. hopefully we get Givens and Simmons back soon, as this defense got pretty beat up by a mid pack team. this type of play will get us in trouble even against Pitt. while the offense had some issues and probably could have benefited by a guy like Shorter, this is not the main concern. Defense needs to get some players back and get settled. clearly going to be using many freshmen this year.
We have had 4 full recruiting cycles, so you can now see that the last two classes are far superior to the first 3 classes. Still, too many losses and someone, hell, anyone, needs to return next week. We played Pitt two years ago with a jv defense and we lost. It will happen again if we can't get some guys back on the field.
And Parsons needs to be the starting middle linebacker and I don't care about 11 tackles all made about 10 yards downfield. That's not good linebacker play.

Stuff like this happens every year in every major program in the country. Injuries, suspensions, transfers. Losing the two Frost sucks but doubt they would have contributed anyway this year. Losing Buchholz hurts. Never expected Bowen to be back or Brown to be recovered Zembiec was not going to see the field.
As many missing bodies as there were, I was actually surprised / shocked at the number of bodies that got into the game!

We put up 45 points today, that's not too shabby without all those guys. Problem today was the defense and special teams.

Clifford took second team reps the past week at practice, not Stevens. Was obvious to me Stevens wasnt going to play.
He hasn’t been mentioned as playing but I swear I saw true frosh #2 Humphries chasing Evans on that kickoff return TD. I had to look at the roster to identify the player. Anyone else notice him or is he not wearing #2?

Stevens threw during pre-game warmups before they suited up. I do not remember Stevens throwing at all after they all came out in full gear. Stevens and Clifford were both warming up after App St took the lead before Hamler's kick return. I think they did it on their own to be ready, if Franklin wanted to use them for last ditch hail mary. They both have stronger arms then Trace. Stevens is probably healthy enough to move around a little bit and throw a hail marry. He might be healthy enough to play now if he didn't run so much and PSU didn't have a Clifford. I am sure the staff feels comfortable with Clifford at the controls of this offense.
I think Simmons is on the back by Ohio State plan that we saw 2 years ago with Cabinda and Bell. We have only 3 maybe 4 healthy DEs and we are playing 3 and sometimes all 4 in the nickel. I think that contributed to App St 4th QTR performance. They didn't have the fresh legs like they had in the past with the normal rotation. We need Givens' suspension to be one game but Frankiln has proven he won't bend on discipline. John Reid came up lame after getting beat for a TD.
Johnson switched to 2 because he is on every special teams unit, except for FGs so he had to change because Thompkins is 3.
was Franklin asked about the availability of players? this is more than a casual problem. you can say next man up all you want, but right now the only player who has shown any ability to get interior pressure on QBs is Givens and we do not know his situation. the other players may someday be able to deliver, but not today. at DE we have a depleted team with only two real DEs vs the run = YGM and Miller, and Miller did not have a normal game by his standards. hope he is not injured. you have to get TFLs and sacks with your front four in order to pressure consistently. if we need to bring 7 players including safeties to get pressure this DEF will have a long season.
