So far it has been very enjoyable. It's fun seeing fans from so many nations in one place and getting along. Great sportsmanship on the field and in the stands. Teams are applauded in appreciation by all as they leave the field. We had South Africans and Scots in front of us and Irish seated behind us. Lots of crazy costumes. After the U.S., Fiji appears to have the most followers. Also the most admirers. They are fantastic.

Both American sides are out of the running. The women were easily handled in the match for fourth place by Australia. New Zealand dispatched France 29-0 or the championship. The men's finals are Sunday. US men were eliminated from the championship bracket in OT by England. They take on Scotland this afternoon for a chance to advance in the consolation bracket.

Everyone we have met in San Francisco have been friendly and helpful to we visitors. AT&T Park is not so much a sports venue as an expensive food court with an athletic field attached. In addition to the normal fare, there are stands to buy wine, hot fudge sundaes, several varieties of sausage, salads, gyros, pizza, brisket sandwiches etc. Tomorrow I intend to find out how they do with a Philly cheesesteak.

My guess is somewhere between horrible and downright awful.

The cheesesteak sucked, of course. American cheese?

That's because San Francisco excels at the tri-tip steak sandwich. The Philly Cheesesteak is an alien creature with cheap shaved beef, and the tri-tip at Buckhorn Grill is better than any of the hundreds of Philly Cheesesteaks I've ever eaten.
